Friday Racing Tips - Mornington Racecourse 08/09/23

Racing returns to Mornington this Friday for a bumper eight race card and there looks to be a bunch of decent betting spots on the card and I am pretty keen on this card as some of the more progressive runners in Melbourne look to move onto Saturday racing. I think that we should see some ultra competitive fields and it should overall be an exciting day, each race is for an equal share of $27k and there are four maiden races on the card. I’m keen to get stuck into things so follow me below!

BEST BET - #4 - Blue Chip Girl (BEST BET) 
Blue Chip Girl looks like she is going to be awfully tough to beat here for the Laurie camp and runs well with fresh legs based on her first preparation. Her debut run came over this distance at Yarra Valley last year where she raced along the fence and hit the line hard to only just miss late. She’s put in a bunch of good efforts since and now resumes under Jamie Kah here so there’s clearly intent.

THE DANGER - #6 - Fanagoria
Fanagoria looks like a good bet in this field for Phillip Stokes and only has had the one start for the stable since being sold for Peter and Paul Snowden and has looked very strong since returning. He resumed off of a 21 week spell on the Pakenham Synthetic where he did all the early work and had a solid kick in the straight but just found one better in the dying strides. He looks to make big improvements off the back of that first up run in a long time and should go well here.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Jipushi 
Jipushi has looked pretty solid in four runs back from a spell and has really clicked up in her last few. Her last two runs have come over this distance on the Pakenham Synthetic and has run very well, powering home from not the most decent of spots in each and nearly claiming both those races but just finding one better in each to finish runner up. Looks well placed here from the decent draw and should be strong here.

BEST BET - #1 - A Pinch Of Luck (NEXT BEST) 
A Pinch Of Luck looks like she will be tough to beat here for the Leek stable and steps off the Synthetic and onto this course where he should relish getting back onto the turf. He won first up at Bairnsdale before his last two efforts over the 1400m on the synthetic but has been against the track pattern in both and his runs have been even more impressive when you consider that and he’s still placed runner up in both. He rates a ways in front of this field and gets a key weight offset from Keane. 

THE DANGER - #2 - Indented Head
Indented Head looks well placed here for Phillip Stokes and gets a key claim to offset top weight from Edgley’s booking for the ride. He has had three runs back from a long 39 week spell and now looks to be at his peak here off the back of a mile run where he joined the lead on the turn and fought hard to the line to finish third. I think back 100m in trip looks good for him and he should be running well here.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Needlework 
Needlework has been placed on the quick back up here for the Pankhurst stable and I think with a fair bit of intent if he’s being turned around in five days. He’s been up for awhile but has been putting in good runs picking up a win and multiple close placings and has really clicked up in his last two mile runs have seen him under pressure from out front and just over run late in the piece. He looks well placed back 100m in distance now.

BEST BET - #4 - Zourata
Zourata, if he can handle carrying top weight, looks to be a solid bet in this field for the Corstens stable third up and just about ready to find his peak. His two runs back from a spell have both been solid, first up he ran a close second placing with a good kick in the straight and fighting hard to the line to go down in the last 50m only. He’ll be fitter now third up after racing wide with no cover all run last time out. Egan booked, tough to beat.

THE DANGER - #8 - Vegas Diva
Vegas Diva steps back from racing in Saturday company and has been up for awhile but continues to race well after being given short consistent breaks from racing. He ran fourth behind Fighting Sanami two runs ago in a sprint that they ran their legs off and that form reads well for this assignment.

VALUE BET - #9 - Showies Best Shot (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Showies Best Shot is hard to ignore coming off the Synthetic and having just his fourth career start for the Ledger stable. His two last two runs have been close seconds where he has either led or found near the front in each of those only to go down late and he now gets in super light, hard fit and back onto the turf. Keen on his chances at odds.

Ben Melham has been riding extremely well these past few months and continues to get booked on the top stables top rides each week.
