Friday Racing Tips - Murwillumbah Racecourse 25/08/23

Racing returns to Murwillumbah racecourse up north this Friday for a bumper eight race card with a total of just under half a million dollars prize money available across the card and I am keen to get stuck into things and have run through the card and picked out my best betting spots below. I am focusing my attention on the sprints / shorter distance races as I think Murwillumbah can get quite tricky and so am sticking to what I know. Follow me below for a solid Friday of racing up North!

Murwillumbah R3 - Gosels Bus Service (Bm58) (1100m)

Selections:
#7 - Playgirl - $5.50
#3 - Single Touch - $7.00
#1 - Old Timing Man (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $14.00
#9 - Star Of Shalaa - $10.00

BEST BET - #7 - Playgirl
Pretty open race with a couple key chances at odds but I do think that Playgirl lines up quite nicely here for Matty Dunn and can run another big race here. She was three weeks between runs after running a solid placing at Grafton when she stepped out at the 1200m at Casino last time out in a big field. She came from deep in the field there to motor up on the turn and get the money late in a bold effort. She’ll be hard fit now, gets a big jockey upgrade to Ben Thompson, who will get her into a nice spot and she’s a genuine chance.

THE DANGER - #3 - Single Touch
Single Touch looks up to the task here coming from Casino to the bigger racing for the Newing stable and I think he’s a genuine chance in this field. He raced two weeks ago when third up at the 1000m at Casino where he did a bit wrong in the run but when he got going he was very impressive, clocking some good splits before being held up badly late in the straight and being forced behind the placegetters. Mcguren retains the ride and will afford him every chance.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Old Timing Man (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Old Timing Man has to be a threat here. He’s coming into this off a luckless run on the synthetic where he didn’t totally seem to appreciate the ground anyway but prior to then he looked to have really started to hit a bit of form when racing at this distance at Grafton where he stalked the leaders all run before starting a powerful run to win late. He’s won 1/1 at this course as well and gets a big 4kg claim to offset the big top weight, genuine chance.

Murwillumbah R5 - Oatley Wines Hcp (C2) (1550m)

Selections:
#1 - Al Ash Lad (NEXT BEST) - $5.50
#6 - Daedalus - $6.00
#3 - Enterprise Jewel - $8.50
#2 - Desert Mist - $3.80

BEST BET - #2 - Desert Mist
Matty Dunn is dominating the market with this race, having both the current favourite and second favourite and I think this is a particularly good spot for Al Ash Lad who rates as one of the highest overall horses at the meeting tomorrow as well as one of the highest differentials to second place overall in the days’ meeting. He won three back here and can replicate that effort coming off the back of a very game second placing over the 1300m at Ballina where he looked to box along very nicely. He will be fit, ready for the trip and keen now.

THE DANGER - #6 - Daedalus
Matty Dunn also send forward Daedalus who is the third line of betting in this field but I actually think that despite his poor win rate (2 / 28) he looks to be in for a big prep this time around and can get a well deserved win here. He gets the booking of Ben Thompson off the back of his last run where he came from super deep in a big field over the Mile at Coffs to beat all but the winner who had the perfect setup. He now gets a jockey upgrade, will be hard fit and maps for a nice run in transit and this race isn’t overly deep.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Enterprise Jewel
Enterprise Jewel is an interesting runner who, at this best, has what it takes to win this. He was with the O’Dea / Hoystead camp for some time before being sold to John Shelton earlier this year and has had three runs now for his new stable. None of them have been poor performances and he did come off a long spell and usually takes a few runs to get going and last time out he finished just behind the placegetters over the 1400m at Casino where he really only got going late in the piece and now looks like this distance will be suitable. Not an overly strong field, if he brings his best he wins.

Murwillumbah R7 - Riverview Hotel Big Dance Eligibility Murwillumbah Cup (1550m)

Selections:
#8 - Wategos (BEST BET) - $3.00
#2 - Kinloch - $5.00
#9 - Eaglemont - $7.50
#5 - Battleton - $6.00

BEST BET - #8 - Wategos (BEST BET)
Smart placement by the Bjorn Baker stable to put forth Wategos to take out the Murwillumbah Cup and I think there is a good chance he beats these dominantly. There’s a few here who he has matched up against before but Wategos is just going so well this campaign. His last two runs he has won well in Saturday grade at Rosehill, first beating off the likes of future Group racing star Givara in a tough run before stepping out over the 1350m and knocking off King Of Naples and For Victory in another bold effort. He will be hard fit, with plenty to offer fourth up here and with Jimmy Orman on he has to be the leading contender.

THE DANGER - #2 - Kinloch
Kinloch is a horse I have plenty of time for for Kris Lees and it would be awesome to see him win tomorrow. He’s had three runs back from a short let up this time in and has been afforded breaks between the runs but now turns around after about a month away from racing and having trialled nicely recently it looks like there is real intent for this race and has been all season. He’s put together three sharp placings in three runs this prep and can take this out now…

VALUE BET - #9 - Eaglemont
Eaglemont gets in well weighted compared to some of his rivals and has what it takes to win this. He’s another of Matty Dunn’s army of runners at the course tomorrow and looks well placed here. He had put the writing on the wall with a close runner up at Doomben before he stepped out at Rosehill in a Highway about a month ago where he overcame a tough run to win well there and looks well placed now off the back of that run. He’ll be fitter, gets Thompson aboard and sure to run well from the decent gate with low weight.

Best Promotions for Murwillumbah Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
