BEST BET - #6 - Vigneron (BEST BET)
It’s close between a couple of these in the opener but going to side with Vigneron who I think, as long as he doesn’t let them get too far in front of him, should sit just off a very genuine speed and be too strong for them late here. The Maher and Eustace three-year-old has only come to the races three times in her career so far but has been making steady improvements each time and looks perfectly placed here now to go over with Mertens aboard I will trust him to steer him into a position where he will be forward enough to be in the race late.
THE DANGER - #11 - Rippling Belle
I do think that Chris Alderson has a good thing with Ripping Belle but I just think he maps to do a bit too much early work and that with the fitness advantage Vigenron may run over him. However, Rippling Belle does look the top chance in this field as he only has to make it to the 1000m without tiring and he will be fitter for this assignment second up now off a three month break. He returned at Mornington over this distance and was honest in defeat, shifting out wide on the turn and powering home but just couldn’t real in the leader when second there. He looks very well placed to go one better now.
VALUE BET - #14 - Champagne In Lace
Simon Zahra and Matthew Cartwright combine on Champagne in Lace who resumes off a long 23 week spell for this assignment and has shown promise in just the seven career starts to date. He has been racing in some tough competition and clocking in great splits in a lot of his runs, the jumpout work for his return has looked good as well. He has heaps of early speed and from gate 5 he should just bounce straight onto the lead, if it doesn’t use up much effort which he doesn’t map to do, I think he will still have plenty to offer on the turn and be prominent all run. Top chance.
