Friday Racing Tips - Scone Racecourse 22/09/23

Racing returns to Scone racecourse this Friday and we have been having some great success at the track in its recent Friday meetings and I am keen to pick up some more winners here tomorrow. We have a solid eight race card at the track tomorrow that kicks off with a maiden race and is followed by a handful of exciting Benchmark grade races with most to be contested for a share of $30k prize money. As usual I have run through the Scone race card and picked out my best bets for the day so follow me below for another exciting day of racing!

Scone R2 - Magpie Gin (Bm66) (1600m)

Selections:
#1 - Sumptuary (BEST BET) - $1.85
#4 - The Chosen One- $10.00
#5 - Crop Duster - $6.50
#3 - Super Freds- $11.00

BEST BET - #1 - Sumptuary (BEST BET)
The dominant regional force of Paul Messara and Aaron Bullock presents on Sumptuary who looks like a moral early on in the card. He’s got two wins and two placings to kick his career off and now returns to racing off of a 24 week spell and off the back of two sharp trials. The most recent trial was here and saw him run strongly to the line when second. I don’t think there’s too much more to it, likely wins.

THE DANGER - #5 - Crop Duster
Crop Duster looks like he will be competitive here, dropping back from Saturday grade racing and taking a sharp step back in competition. He’s been up for awhile and after going luckless in back to back runs at Randwick he dropped back to race in a strong Dubbo Class 2 race where he was forced to peel widest on the straight and kicked through the line powerfully, clocking some great splits and looking ready for this trip. Will make this a race.

VALUE BET  - #4 - The Chosen One
The Chosen One looks like quite a smart animal who can be prominent here if he still has steam in the tank. He’s had four runs back from a spell this time in and won his resumption run before placing a close second the subsequent outing and then not having too much go his way since. He last ran in The Pearl at Tuncurry where he chased powerfully out wide to just miss and that reads well for this assignment.

Scone R4 - Kia Ora Hcp (C1) (1300m)

Selections:
#2 - Point Basse - $3.30
#3 - Smokin' Crazy - $2.30
#1 - Island Legend (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $12.00
#9 - Princess Cruizer - $11.00

BEST BET - #2 - Point Basse
Backing that fitness beats class in this one and I have opted with Point Basse for Brett Cavanough. This horse looks to be onto bigger things and has had two impressive runs to kick his career off. Both of them have come at the 1300m here with the career debut being a smart win before stepping back out here to narrowly miss in second placing to another smart type who had the gun run. He will have to beat a Messara x Bullock rep but I think he has what it takes.

THE DANGER - #3 - Smokin' Crazy
Smokin’ Crazy is the Messara x Bullock combination horse in this race and as always has to be respected. He has only had the two career starts and now comes into this resuming, having not raced since April this year but has looked very sharp in two trials at this course for the return and when breaking maiden earlier this year he did look to have plenty to learn despite winning well. Will be strong through the run no doubt.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Island Legend (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Island Legend is a smart horse for the Williams stable who looks to have resumed in very good order off the back of a 25 week spell after changing camps to Holly from Terry Croft and she resumed at Armidale over the 1100m where she did very well with a nice trail in to start a powerful run in the straight and looked the winner, only to be claimed late by a smart horse. She will have plenty of upside only second up now off that break and strikes a winnable race.

Scone R7 - Coolmore Super Mdn Hcp (1400m)

Selections:
#14 - Trajectile (NEXT BEST) - $8.00
#1 - Night Patra - $3.80
#6 - Hell Of A Show- $5.75
#4 - Oakfield Eagle - $12.00

BEST BET - #14 - Trajectile (NEXT BEST)
I am tempted to say that Trajectile takes this out for Kris Lees who combines with a familiar face in Andrew Gibbons and the pair rarely goes badly. He’s had two runs to kick off his career with the first being a smart run to finish just behind the placegetters over the 1100m here before stepping out over this distance on a bogged down track at Tuncurry where he was far from disgraced from off the pace there and strong through the line. He gets back on top of the ground now, will be much fitter for that tough run in the Heavy last time out and I think he wins this.

THE DANGER - #1 - Night Patra
Night Patra has put the writing on the wall in his last two outings and can break through here in a strong Maiden field. He’s had four runs this time in but has really clicked up in his last two. Two back he stepped out at tamworth over this distance where he powered home from deep in the field to beat all but the winner before coming to this course over the Mile where he again let down late to charge home into second. Not sure about the step down in distance but he’s hard fit and just needs to let down a bit earlier to take this out.

VALUE BET - #4 - Oakfield Eagle
Oakfield Eagle looks well placed to improve sharply off the back of resuming as favourite at Kempsey where he had clear excuses and didn’t live up to the price. He bounced okay there and recovered to park up behind the speed but when he started revving up to get going he got badly checked at the 200m and couldn’t finish it off from there. He will be fitter for that run but more so we don’t know what he’s really capable of and now he will have an honest chance to show us from the good gate.

Jockey Of The Day – Jye Mcniel

Jye McNeil is an accomplished jockey, having won several black type races, including the prestigious 2020 Melbourne Cup aboard Twilight Payment. He has also received the Victoria Racing Club's Champion Jockey Award in two consecutive seasons (2019/20 and 2020/21), underscoring his reputation as one of Victoria's finest jockeys. He is known to perform exceptionally well on major race days, and he has secured a significant number of rides for this weekend's racing at Scone Park Lakeside, I have outlined them all below:

R1 - #2 - El Patroness - $2.45
R3 - #6 - Manhattan Thunder - $12.00
R5 - #4 - Toronto Terrier - $6.10

R7 - #5 - Arizona Activist - $18.00

Multi Tips For Scone Racecourse

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse. As a result, horses drawn on the inside have a better chance of performing well compared to those drawn towards the outside. I have factored in this aspect when making my multi bets, taking into account the horses' respective preps and their drawn barrier positions. Follow below for a multi to track over race day!

Scone R2 - #1 - Sumptuary - PLC $1.14

Best Promotions for Scone Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
