Friday Racing Tips - Ballarat Racecourse 23/06/23

Racing comes back onto the Sportsbet-Ballarat Synthetic off the back of a Monday card here and it was a very exciting day with runners coming from every part of the track to score and some definite blackbookers who can make big improvements on turf off the back of honest runs. We have another exciting eight race card with four maidens and four BM64’s, all contested for a share of $38,000 prize money and we should see some competitive races so follow me below as I outline my best betting spots on the card!

BEST BET - #2 - Boominartie - (BEST BET)
The Maher and Eustace trained Boominartie has done nothing wrong in three runs back from a spell, placing in each of them and he really should have won last start on the Synthetic here where he jumped awkwardly and used up a bit of effort to recover but he did recover well and chased solidly all run to just be outkicked late by a horse that had the gun run. Maps to have a much more economical run this time in and the extra 100m shouldn’t hurt his chances here.

THE DANGER - #5 - Magic Flyer 
Magic Flyer has been very strong in two runs back from a spell. He resumed at Echuca just over 5 weeks ago when and was great there from out wide, continuing to find the line to place second there before stepping on to the synthetic where he set on the speed two wide and hit the lead in the straight but timed the run maye a tad early and was overhauled late. Should be hard fit now and rates highly against these off the back of that last run

VALUE BET  - #1 - Assignment 
Assignment looks like a very good thing resuming for Matt Cumani. He has run well with fresh legs before and the stable generally has their runners right first up with his last preps first up run being a very bold effort at Ararat where he only just went down late to be in the placings. He’s contested some tougher races than this, the last of which was at the Warrnambool Carnival earlier this year in the Super Vobis when running a strong second place there. I think he goes well here.

BEST BET - #5 - Intrepid Eagle  - (NEXT BEST)
Intrepid Eagle should go well getting back onto the synthetic here after a luckless run at Flemington at the beginning of the month where he was never headed and probably was thrown in the deep end just a bit too much there. The run before came here and it was a dominant win, where he came from eleventh and widest, winding up at the top of the straight and powerfully, easily going over the top of them. He should still be fit and clearly relishes the ground here. Go close.

THE DANGER - #10 - Sachem
Sachem is another who I think will be tough to beat in this field for Matty Williams. He’s had just the one run this time in off the back of a twenty two week spell on the synthetic here and he did more than enough to show he has returned well when angling off the backs of the speed and powering home late behind the potential future superstar in I am Caviar. I think she has plenty of upside second up now and will only run well in not an overly strong field.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Le Ferrari
Le Ferrari is a B & J Hayes trained runner that we had in onlyracing.com.au’s free horse racing tips three weeks ago at this course where he duly saluted in a very strong and brave win that saw him just grind down the leaders all run until he finally got the better of them. Off the back of that it is no longer a query to see how he is racing and has been given three weeks now between runs for him so should retain fitness, loves racing here and only runs well I think.

BEST BET - #5 - Miss Magnifico
It is going to take a good thing to beat the Maher and Eustace trained Miss Magnifico who has only had the two career starts to date but has been Jumping out very nicely for her return to racing and looks set to go first up here. Last time when first up at Bairnsdale she set fourth on the rails before angling off the leaders backs and powering away for quite a fast timed win when never in doubt and scoring by a few lengths. She looks very well placed for a big return based on her debut and am keen to see how she goes, just think that the short quote might be a bit too short.

THE DANGER - #3 - He's Essential 
I’m not sure how well He’s Essential is going but if he turns up for this race he’s going to be very competitive here. He resumed off a 19 week spell two back at Cranbourne where he set fourth on the rail, crossing without too much effort and looked to have every chance on the home straight but he just whacked away there to finish just behind the placegetters. He was never headed last time out when stepping onto the synthetic but overrated quite badly for the first half of the race there. His only other synthetic run was a very game win and I think with a more economical run this time in and hard fit third up he will be tough.

VALUE BET - #6 - Red Cut Rock 
Red Cut Rock is stepping up quite a lot in grade, coming from the non tab tracks onto the big players courses for Chris Weeding. Chris took over ownership of Red Cut Rock late last year and they sent him around to a bunch of different tracks, took him back to the paddock a few times but seemingly it’s all starting to come together when scoring well at Gundagai and Tumut to make it back to back wins before being sent for a spell again. He now resumes here off a 22 week spell and generally goes very well fresh. Sneaky chance at the odds.
