Friday Racing Tips - Sunshine Coast Racecourse 24/03/23

Racing kicks on at Sunshine Coast this Friday with what looks to be a really nice eight race card with most races being over sprint distances, 1000m - 1300m and a couple mid distance races tied into the mix. There are a few good betting spots on the card with some horses who look to be progressing onto bigger Autumn races up North and a few who are coming for their first couple runs in an attempt to get out of maiden grade. It should be an exciting day at Sunshine Coast, follow me below for my breakdown of the card.

BEST BET - #2 - Loose Unit (BEST BET)
Loose Unit has placed in four of his five runs this campaign and has been racing well without getting any luck. His two most recent runs have been in some solid company at this track and then most recently at Doomben, both over this distance which should have him primed to go over now. He gets Bailey Wheeler back on board who has a 25% strike rate at the moment and knows this track well and I think it will take a smart thing to beat him on race day.

THE DANGER - #4 - American Pioneer 
American Pioneer looks like he should be at just about peak fitness third up tomorrow at Sunshine Coast. He’s had the two runs at Eagle Farm to prime himself for this and most recently he was behind the smart Naval Trader in a 1400m maiden last week and he still motored home solidly into fourth after being held up multiple times in the run. He should settle close here and will be hard fit and ready to win.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Brooklyn Dash 
Brooklyn Dash is an Annabel Neasham trained three-year-old Filly who also comes into this third up, racing under Samantha Collett and she hasn’t been disgraced in her two runs at this track so far. Most recently, she was bumped around in traffic a bunch before shifting out three wide at the 300m and running hard home into fourth place. That was a very brave effort in defeat and she did look to be working towards a win from that. I think she is a top chance tomorrow.

BEST BET - #1 - Azure Pride (NEXT BEST)
It is make or break for Azure Pride and I do think that despite it being start number nine for him he really should be taking this out. Benny Thompson sticks on him and has been with him his last three starts, in each of these Azure Pride has either gone down on the line, or chased hard to just miss. He most recently raced over this distance at Doomben where he led and fought hard but found one better in the super progressive Blue Ray. He maps to lead them out again and this time will take some hard running down. D day for him

THE DANGER - #2 - Burnt By Bernie 
Burnt By Bernie should be super competitive here. He’s the newcomer from NSW under Annabel Neasham who is flying at the moment and Burnt By Bernie is racing under Brodie Loy which is always a tick. He was six weeks between runs when he had his third outing to the races at Kembla Grange two weeks ago and he just plugged along there after showing hot early speed and then burning off with a few hundred meters to go there. The quick turnaround shows intent and the stable clearly thought he just needed that run for fitness/experience and I think they will deliver something on race day.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Time To Testify 
Time to Testify has placed in two runs from five this campaign and gets a top chance to go one better this time in. He’s drawn the rails, which looks very good for his run style, is hard fit and trialled nicely the other week for his return from a short let up and his times read quite well for this. I think with even luck in running, he should be up near the speed and if previous runs are to go by then he will have a lovely finish into the straight.

BEST BET - #7 - Bulloo - $2.50
Bulloo looks very well placed to take this out after placing in her last two runs. Both of these came at Doomben under Justin Huxtable over the 1600m and he now returns to the 1300m which looks good given how he has been tracking. He seems to do his best work in that 900m - 1400m range of the run and I think with the time away from the races between runs to improve his manners, as well as being better for the experience of these last couple runs. He will be motoring home hard on the turn and will be hard to keep up with.

THE DANGER - #3 - Holiday Dreams (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Holiday Dreams I am convinced is going well and working towards a win. The Ryan Heathcote trained Gelding gets Benny Thompson booked for this ride, they draw the rail and all signs point to serious intent to take this out. He comes into this off the back of a fifth placing at Toowoomba when resuming from a let up and did it tough there, four wide without cover before looming at the straight and having a decent kick but succumbing late to that run. He will be all the better for that and I think is the leading contender in this field.

VALUE BET - #1 - Outburst 
Outburst looks to be a super progressive horse for Michael Lakey who gets Boris Thornton aboard for his fifth up ride her today and he looks to really have found form of late, falling short two back to just come second at Eagle farm to the smart Green Flash under James Orman back in December before coming to this track mid January and scoring smartly over the 1800m after leading them all the way and controlling the race in front. He’s had a little break before this and drops sharply in trip but is a free running horse and I think that’s obviously been the thinking putting him into this. Interested to see how it eventuates.
