Friday Racing Tips - Sunshine Coast Racecourse 26/05/23

Friday racing continues at the Sunshine Coast off the back of what was an awesome Queensland Summer Carnival and there are a total of seven races on the card, with three of them in Maiden grade and the rest to be contested in Benchmark grade. I think it should be a very competitive card and I have outlined my best betting spots for tomorrow’s racing at the Sunshine Coast!

BEST BET - #7 - My Pins (BEST BET)
I am convinced that My Pins is going very well and will be onto bigger races than this. The Bevan Laming trained runner is lightly raced, having only had the three starts at the races this campaign but has been dominant in winning two of those before going out to Eagle Farm last time in stronger company than this and whilst she looked to have her chance, she just couldn’t work into the run there when fifth behind some good types. I like her up in trip and back in grade now.

THE DANGER - #3 - Air Of Alsace
I think it would be criminal to discount Air Of Alsace after changing camps to the hands of Kacy Fogden earlier this year. He was given time to be brought back to the races and when he was, it was an outstanding display. He raced two wide at Beaudesert before starting his run on the turn and doing the best to narrowly win there. Out in distance, not overly strong depth to this and I think he will look the winner at some point.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Jakkalberry Finn
Jakkalberry Finn hasn’t done all that much in his two runs so far this campaign for David Vandyke but I have a feeling he’s going to make sharp improvements into this. Ryan Maloney gets the booking which gives me confidence as he has a greater than 1 in 3 strike rate for Vandyke. He maps to sit off the speed and now, third up and with fitness, he should have something strong for them in the home straight.

BEST BET - #1 - Caldante (NEXT BEST)  
This looks like a race that will be contested by the top two picks and whilst it has been tough to split them I am keen to be with Caldante who is having his fourth start for Stuart Kendrick and his last two runs have been full of merit, placing third in both of them in competitive affairs where he was beaten under a length in both. He does appear, off the back of those runs, to like it with his toe in the ground so watch what the weather does but any rain will be positive signs.

THE DANGER - #3 - Knight's Choice
Knight’s Choice looks to be the other top chance in the field. The Symons and Laxon trained three year old has had three runs this campaign and made massive improvements in his last at Ipswich over the 1350m in the mud. He trucked along in the run there, chasing hard all run but just looked to hamper near the line, maybe hitting a bad patch of turd and finished second there but really should have taken that out. Should be hard fit now and is a top chance to go one better in this field.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Italian Virtuoso
Italian Virtuoso resumed off a short break about a month ago and his last three starts should see him very sharp for this. He seems to be a very progressive type for the Lambourn stable who hasn’t been clocking in bad splits at all; he is just struggling to put it all together. He draws well now, Huxtable jumps in the saddle for the ride and I think they can run a much improved race at odds.

BEST BET - #2 - Daulat Tai Panaziz
I think this is a dangerously good setup for the J Holcombe runner Daulat Tai Panaziz who has been taking his time to come up this campaign but takes a big step back in competition for this and has the runs on board now, he draws inside and should find the front comfortably as well as getting Mark Du Plessis on board now, keen on his prospects.

THE DANGER - #4 - Toni Too 
Tonit Too can improve sharply into this off the back of his resumption run to the races for the Jenkins stable. He came back from a long twenty two week spell there at ipswich over the 1666m which is no easy distance to return to first up, which suggests the intent was probably fitness for a task like this. However, he was very good there when getting way too far back in the run and coming on late to pass the tired runners. I think from the soft draw and with added fitness he should look very good late here.

VALUE BET - #7 - Above The Sky (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
I am a big fan of Above The Sky who just has a brilliant run style and smart race manners, if he can start to put a few together consistently we should see him racing in better company than this. He picked up a win at this track three runs back and backed it up with a close placing the subsequent run before going to Ipswich and being held up multiple times and squeezed a bunch but still came on strongly to end up fourth in a big field. With some more luck this time we should see him in the finish and never runs a bad race.
