Friday Racing Tips - Taree Racecourse 06/10/23

Racing returns to Taree this Friday for a huge regional NSW card with eight races to be run and won and I have run through all of the racing and picked out a best bet, next best bet and best outside chance of the day. The feature race of the day is the Port Macquarie Cup in race seven, a 2000m staying race that will undoubtebly prove ultra competitive. I am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below as I outline the day’s racing at Taree.

Taree R3 - Steeline Port Macquarie Hcp (C1) (1300m)

Selections:
#7 - Nyali Sands (BEST BET) - $2.35
#4 - Headley Grange - $4.80
#8 - Typhoon Neta - $6.50
#6 - Much More Torque - $14.00

BEST BET - #7 - Nyali Sands  (BEST BET)
Nyali Sands looks like a great early double up spot and I am keen to see how he goes here under Ashley Morgan. He has had three runs for the Howlett stable and hasn’t put a bad effort in yet but now looks to really have gotten going with no signs of slowing down after stepping out over this distance a fortnight ago at Dubbo where he belted a nothing field but did so in nice time and looks set to go one on with it now.

THE DANGER - #4 - Headley Grange
Beware the unbeaten horse. Headley Grange has had just the one start for the Mayfield-Smith stable and looks like a good thing going off the back of it. He debuted in a strong maiden, big field at Grafton a couple weeks ago where he wasn’t the best away and came from last and two wide to work into the race and power home for a massive win from the back. More upside to come and that debut win shouldn’t be treated lightly.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Typhoon Neta
Typhoon Neta has been up for some time but doesn’t look to be slowing down and now comes into this race super light with Wadick on and the subsequent claim and I think he only goes well here. He picked up a win at this course a couple runs back before putting together back to back solid runs since and he now draws a good gate, light weight, surely runs well again.

Taree R5 - McGrath Estate Agents (Bm58) (1250m)

Selections:
#4 - Golden Breeze (NEXT BEST) - $5.50
#2 - Don't Forget Dad - $3.90
#1 - Our Cousin Al - $10.00
#8 - All Too Sneaky - $4.00

BEST BET - #4 - Golden Breeze (NEXT BEST)
Tough race here but I think that Golden Breeze comes up at pretty good odds and I am keen to have something on him here. He clocked a super impressive win two back at Grafton when coming from last to first and running home powerfully to clock great splits before being a bit wobbly last time out and having some stuff go wrong in the run. He should be at something of his peak now and gets a good draw, a nice claim from the apprentice and is as good a chance as any.

THE DANGER - #2 - Don't Forget Dad
Don’t Forget Dad rarely runs badly at this racecourse and the Godbolt Bullock combination is not one to be treated lightly. He comes into this off the back of a placing over the 1400m here where he wound up nicely on the corner before storming home and being held up at a crucial stage but was still able to place. I think he could have taken it out with clear air and the 200m back in trip only aids his cause here.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Our Cousin Al
Our Cousin Al might want one more but he seems to be in for a very good prep and has been working his way to a win. I am tempted to say with the claim from Wadick and the way he’s been riding this might just be when it comes. He’s had two runs back from a 22 week spell and in both he has produced electric finishes to come third. He now steps out to a distance range he loves racing at and I think he only runs well here.

Taree R7 - Port Macquarie Cup (2000m)

Selections:
#2 - Mount Popa - $5.00
#3 - Superium - $3.40
#6 - Holstein (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $7.00
#4 - Dark Dream - $9.00

BEST BET - #2 - Mount Popa
Really solid edition of the Port Macquarie Cup that we get and I think it is hard to go past Mount Popa as the straight bat option. He’s got a belter second up record and this will be the easiest field he has met in some time. He resumed off of a 16 week spell in the G3 Cameron HCP at Newcastle where he ran a great run to increase his fitness levels and with his second up record I imagine there is a fair bit of intent here. Keen to see how he goes but not overly confident.

THE DANGER - #3 - Superium
Dangerous horse in the Hawkes boys trained Superium who does take a few runs to get going and comes into this fourth up and approaching hard fitness. His last run came in Saturday grade at Sandown Hillside over the 1500m in the G3 Sandown Stakes two weeks ago where he was badly held up from the 500m-300m but still powered home through the line to finish third. He looks well placed off the back of that in softer company now.

VALUE BET - #6 - Holstein (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Holstein looks like a good bet at decent odds here for Matty Dunn and doesn’t look to be slowing down off what has already been a good prep. He picked up back to back wins at Rosehill and the Sunshine Coast before going to Lismore last time in the Lismore Cup where he ran on well after being held up at a crucial stage to finish third. He’s as strong as anything entered into this so he appeals at better odds than most.

Best Promotions for Taree Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
