Friday Racing Tips - Wagga Racecourse 05/05/23

It’s Wagga Cup day and we have a stacked eight race card with the feature of the day being the Raine & Horne Wagga Wagga Cup for a share of $200,000 prize money. There are some very nice types going around with some City stables sending runners for the day’s racing and I think there will be some super competitive races. Follow me below as I outline my best betting spots for Wagga Cup race day.

Wagga R2 - Toyota Forklifts Hcp (C3) (1000m)

Selections:
#8 - Forms Of Fear (BEST BET) - $5.00
#3 - Pretty Woman - $8.50
#15 - Nonshalaant (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $15.00
#5 - Eye Pea Oh - $4.80

BEST BET - #8 - Forms Of Fear - (BEST BET)
Forms of fear is a former Annabel Neasham runner having his first run for the Pfeiffer stable and returns here a gelding. He hasn’t been seen at the races since late September last year when getting a good run just off the speed but couldn’t finish it off. He’s had a tick over trial in late march and was very good there but has been quiet since, interested to see how he comes into this.

THE DANGER - #3 - Pretty Woman
Pretty Woman looks like a very good mare for Matty Dale who resumes after not having raced since the beginning of the year when she really struggled in the wet at Rosehill in a pretty strong Highway behind a smart Pokerjack. She gets onto firmer ground now and draws to find the front quite easily, should be hard to run down there if she’s fit.

VALUE BET  - #15 - Nonshalaant (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
I think Nonshalaant is over the odds here if he can find the front. He hasn’t been racing well when ridden with a sit and I think the stable knows that now. If Wishart can find the front and let him run and they don’t overdo it out front he will be very hard to run down and can speck at odds.

Wagga R4 - Walsh & Blair Ctry Magic-Bm74 (1200m)

Selections:
#6 - Participator (NEXT BEST) - $4.20
#12 - Almahero - $6.50
#14 - London Gal - $7.00
#11 - Private Agent - $6.50

BEST BET - #6 - Participator (NEXT BEST)
Participator comes into this after just over a month break from the races and looks very well placed to go over for Danny Beasley. Lasst start he jumped right up onto the speed and just missed to come second of ten in a stronger race than this at this track over the 1400m. Before then he failed to fire, coming last at Albury but off the back of that most recent run and the short let up he looks very good coming into this.

THE DANGER - #12 - Almahero
Almahero is a Danielle Seib trained gelding who was massive when resuming at Canberra, sitting three wide with no cover all trip but just trucked along until Nick Heywood asked for some more at the turn and she duly saluted with plenty to give. She strikes a good contest now but will be better for the run, maps for a soft go in transit and I think with even luck she wins this.

VALUE BET  - #14 - London Gal
London Gal maps to lead these and she will have plenty gor them. She raced two back at Goulburn with a similar map that she gets today in much softer company and they just had nothing for her after the turn, scoring by three lengths. She then went to Canberra where she tried her guts out in a tough run but just missed on the placings there when the run told. I think back to 1200m is suitable and she has the run style to be prominent all race.

Wagga R7 - Raine & Horne Wagga Wagga Cup (2000m)

Selections:
#2 - Great House (BEST BET) - $10.00
#12 - Wicklow - $4.00
#19 - Iowa - $9.00
#8 - Pink Ivory - $7.00

BEST BET - #2 - Great House (BEST BET)
I think Great House is the top chance in this field as he is absolutely flying for Chris Waller this season and finds a beatable field here. He ran fresh at Rosehill in the Doncaster Prelude where he was far from disgraced before going to the JRA plate where he was so brave, finding the line until the end of the race to run fourth to a horse who has lengths on these. He should still have upside going into this, goes out to 2000m and must be respected here.

THE DANGER - #12 - Wicklow
Wicklow rates very well against these and has the runs on board. He ran a couple weeks back at the Hawkesbury under Nash in a competitive BM88 over the 1500m where he came on strong from the tail of the field to just miss out on the placings but I really liked how he kept finding the line there. 2000m is the query but the stable is astute with placing their runners and I think they have been working towards this race. I just think that the wide gate might give a few others a bit of an edge on him.

VALUE BET - #19 - Iowa
Iowa is a horse I have a lot of time for even if he has burnt me a couple of times. The Newnham trained import was backed as if he was a moral at Doomben two weeks ago and he looked good to salute at the top of the straight and subsequently ran down the leader with ease to score in great time. That was over the 2200m and he appreciated the speed, which he gets again. He will be very strong here back to 2000m, which won’t be an issue and I think he is over the odds.

Jockey Of The Day – Jye Mcniel

Jye McNeil is an accomplished jockey, having won several black type races, including the prestigious 2020 Melbourne Cup aboard Twilight Payment. He has also received the Victoria Racing Club's Champion Jockey Award in two consecutive seasons (2019/20 and 2020/21), underscoring his reputation as one of Victoria's finest jockeys. He is known to perform exceptionally well on major race days, and he has secured a significant number of rides for this weekend's racing at Wagga Park Lakeside, I have outlined them all below:

R1 - #2 - El Patroness - $2.45
R3 - #6 - Manhattan Thunder - $12.00
R5 - #4 - Toronto Terrier - $6.10

Multi Tips For Wagga Racecourse

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse. As a result, horses drawn on the inside have a better chance of performing well compared to those drawn towards the outside. I have factored in this aspect when making my multi bets, taking into account the horses' respective preps and their drawn barrier positions. Follow below for a multi to track over race day!

R2 - #4 - Good And Proper - PLC $2.20
R3 - #4 - She Dances - PLC $1.45
R5 - #9 - Running By - PLC $1.20

Total Odds = $3.82
$50 Stake = $191.40 Return!

Best Promotions for Wagga Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
