Saturday Racing Tips - Ascot Racecourse 18/03/23

Racing at Ascot kicks on for another great weekend out west and there’s been great racing here for the last few months and we have another cracker card lined up with a stacked nine race card highlighted by the Supremacy Stakes, a 1000m sprint for a share of $125 thousand dollars. The rail is out +5m and the track is rated a good 4.

BEST BET - #1 - Sir Mambo (NEXT BEST)
I think that this is a great race for Sir Mambo in this grade. He’s had three weeks between runs since last racing at this track/distance and he did it tough out wide but was doing good work there before that early burn told late and he was super close in defeat behind Moi Choux who would easily be favorited against this field. I think he goes on better now.

THE DANGER - #2 - Some Sort
Some sort returns to the 1000m after his 1200m run here a fortnight ago where he tried his guts out to lead and did give a strong kick late in the peace but there was just too much room to close there behind Here’s Dreaming and he felt the pinch late there. He should lead from the inside draw and it’ll be hard for them to run him down.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Silkinize
Silkinize is starting to get older but he’s still a solid prospect here. He ran in the same race as Sir Mambo three weeks back and got a soft run there but he wasn’t really anywhere with it. He’s better than that though and whilst his form currently might not see him win this he is one to be considered at the odds.

BEST BET - #5 - Mountain Ash- (NEXT BEST)
I think this is a very good spot for Mountain Ash and clearly the market does as well. He’s in his best form at the moment after racing at this track/distance two weeks back where he tried to lead them and gave a strong kick, looked the winner, but was knocked off late by Currimundi. It should go similarly here and be a bit scary late if your money is on him but if he can cover enough extra ground early he should towel this lot.

THE DANGER - #1 - Friaresque
Friaresque is another who is getting older but he seems to be aging marvelously. He hasn’t raced since Magic Millions Day at Pinjarrra over this distance when he shifted out at the 400m and found the line solidly to end up third to Bragwell. This race is weaker than what he has been facing of late and as such he appeals big time at the odds.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Arnie’s Boy (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
I thought Arnie’s Boy was excellent when resuming at Pinjarra on Magic Millions day and then going onto the Esperance Cup where they really cocked the ride on him there behind the in form / flying Soviet Spy as they attempted to lead and it wore him down. He should only be better now from a softer draw and I expect a decent showing from him.

BEST BET - #9 - Baby Paris (BEST BET)
Baby Paris has been kept on ice for this and I think she has a good shot to go over first up. The Webster trained Filly hasn’t been to the races since the Jungle Mist last year when second to Sniparoochy over the 1200m. I think that she is a true short-course specialist and she moved along very well in a recent trial win. She gets way down in the weights from this and if she can overcome the draw she wins.

THE DANGER - #4 - Acromantula
Acromantula will be the one they have to beat. He’s going to jump on the bunny and whilst they have recently tested out riding him with a sit and haven’t been totally unsuccessful I think that they have to just let him run here. He’s hard fit coming into this and all signs point to them pushing him to roll forward and if all goes to plan by the time the others get going he should be a few lengths too many in front.

VALUE BET - #8 - Excellent Dream
If Excellent Dream stays at these massive odds I just might have to chuck something on. He hasn’t raced since the Carnival last year in the Asian Beau and he was outclassed there when finishing well down the track behind Treasured Star. He is a good fresh horse who I know should have something ready for this and his best runs have come at this track, doesn’t map too badly either and I think he can sneak a placing.
