Saturday Racing Tips - Ascot Racecourse 22/04/23

On Saturday, April 22nd, Ascot Racecourse will host nine races, spanning distances from the 1,000-meter sprints to a 2,200-meter staying race in race seven. The track conditions for the day are good 4, and the total prize purse for all the races on the card is $685,000. The feature race of the day is the group LR Sheila Gwynne Classic, set to take place at 3:44 pm. This race is a set weight with penalties event over 1,400 meters, exclusively for fillies and mares, offering a prize money of $125,000. The current favorite to win the race is Angelic Miss, a six-year-old mare trained by Simon Miller from Ascot, priced at $2.60.

BEST BET - #11 - Bondi Plunge (NEXT BEST)
Bondi Plunge looks very well placed for Dan Morton to make it a winning debut in not the strongest two year old field. The Daughter of established horse Bondi and has won both of her public trials. The first of which she sat towards the back of the field and found the line very well herself without much encouragement from Parnham and then went to another trial to lead them out and score easily. Think shes a top chance to take this out.

THE DANGER - #4 - More Special
More Special finds a much more beatable field than her last few races after racing at this track and distance in the Gimcrack where she sat on the speed throughout and tried hard all run but just didn’t have the quality to go on with them in the last 200m. The form from that was franked last week very well and she is clearly the one to beat here.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Soaring Solo
Soaring Solo is one that looks good at the odds. She is having her third outting to the races this month and should be hard fit here now after racing in the Gimcrack with the aforementioned More Special and then raced at the 1000m last week when she sat on the speed throughout but couldn’t get one over a very progressive Shell Bell. She might not have what it takes to win this but she can run into the placings at the odds.

BEST BET - #3 - Sky Duke
There’s a lot of good horses in this race but I think sticking with the Parnham trained Sky Duke who goes into this on resumption after taking a break since mid January when racing here over the 1200m and being very good from just off the speed, running hard late and finishing close to a much better horse in Valsassina. He races best with fresh legs and has a very good record over the 1000m and his tick over trial was also very good. It’s an open race but he maps well, the stable is flying and always has to be respected on their home track.

THE DANGER - #4 - Senorita Dorotea
Senorita Dorotea is a deserving favourite in this field after finding winning form last time out under Chris Parnham after two very close second placings he raced on Good Friday over the 1200m here under Parnham and after sitting on the speed he drove to the lead to just hold them at bay. She hasn’t drawn too well but looks like she has a very dynamic run style, has found winning form and can go on with it now.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Hibiscus Lady (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Hibiscus Lady is very good with fresh legs and resumes here today for the Barber stable and hasn’t been seen for twenty weeks at the races. She’s a proven first up winner, scoring in two from three when first-up and also ran second when last first up at Belmont. Her best reads very well for this and whilst she hasn’t had any public trials her Jumpout work looks very good for this. Booking of Pike signals intent as well.

BEST BET - #8 - Ex Sport Man (BEST BET)
Ex Sport Man is a horse I have been following for awhile and he looks very good here. He had been working towards a win with some very good runs before taking a little break and then resuming at Ascot. Two weeks ago he raced at this track and distance and the writing on the wall told when he thrashed them in a pretty good time. That was his first run at the mile and he looks very good off the back of that, with the run under the belt now he looks good to make it back to back wins.

THE DANGER - #4 - Ginger Green
Insert contenGinger Green is a very good looking five year old for Steve Wolfe who should be at peak third up now and looks like going out to the mile will be very good. He resumed with a big win over the 1200m beating a very progressive Western Knight. He then went out to 1400m and got far back in the run but was very strong late in the piece when he just couldn’t get one over Magnificent Andy who just keeps winning. He’s been good before at the mile and looks to be right for the run again.

VALUE BET - #5 - Kaymay
Kaymay might not have what it takes over some of these but I do think the form is much better than it reads on paper. He had a terrible run when battling away first up at Belmont but he still managed to scrape into third before going to this track and making up very good ground from too far back, running fourth to Magnificent Andy there. If she can settle a bit closer to the front then she will be dangerous at the end.
