Saturday Racing Tips - Caulfield Racecourse 03/02/24

Racing comes back to Caulfield as the season really starts to heat up and we have two listed races on the card with the Lamaro's Hotel Chairman's Stakes being the feature race of the day, a 1000m sprint for a share of $200k prize money. I am keen for the card and have run through the card and picked out my best betting spots so follow me below!

BEST BET - #1 - Smokin Giant (NEXT BEST) 
Smokin Giant looks like he is going to be onto big things after the way he debuted over the mile at Pakenham where he just cruised along until the 400m when asked for the effort by Lane and once that happened he absolutely bolted away to win and win very well. I think he is only going to be tougher to beat now.

THE DANGER - #9 - Justaboom 
Justaboom hasn’t put a foot wrong in three career starts for the Griffiths and De Kock stable, winning one and placing in the other two and he comes into this hard fit and ready to fire again after last stepping out over the mile at Pakenham and doing very well when storming home down the outside in a flash effort. Well weighted, hard fit and with Mott on, he can make an impression here. 

VALUE BET  - #2 - Crossoverkid
Crossoverkid looks to be going in upwards for Andrew Payne after running in a 2000m Flemington race where he sat at the tail of the field and couldn’t win from back there but he did run on very well in defeat behind Bold Soul who then won again last weekend in Tasmania. I think he is over the odds in this race.

BEST BET - #2 - Eneeza (BEST BET)
How do you really knock Eneeza for the Moody / Coleman camp after she ended her Spring campaign with a dominant win in the Merson Cooper before going away for a break with the Blue Diamond as the target race. She had a recent Pakenham jumpout where she was absolutely flying and whilst the target race is a couple weeks out she can easily take this out on the way there.

THE DANGER - #3 - Scampi
Scampi should be sharp here returning to racing for Ciaron Maher after two runs in Spring where she didn’t do much on debut before running very well in the Golden Gift, chasing hard late behind Shangri La Express. She’s now had a bunch of sharp trials to lead her back into racing and with Mark Zahra aboard she will be strong here.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Counteroffensive
Counteroffensive is a horse stepping out for the Snowden’s and has to be respected with them bringing him down for this. He trialled with the big boys when running well behind High Octane and then flew home in his most recent trial to win well. We’ll have to see if they set him up the same as they did in that trial but if that is the case he will be very sharp here.

BEST BET - #2 - Rich Fortune (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Rich Fortune has to rate as one of the best value bets of the day after she has just not been able to find enough late in her last two runs but still having been strong to the line both times. Her most recent run came at Geelong over the 1100m where he probably just needed a bunny to chase. I think he now gets that and will be one of the strongest late with the additional 100m suiting his run style.

THE DANGER - #1 - Wrote To Arataki
Wrote To Arataki is the best horse in the field and if she was deeper into her prep I would take her without even considering it too much. She comes into this fresh after not having raced since the Rupert Clarke where she ran home well behind Magic Time. She is good fresh but draws a horrible gate and takes on the big weight here.  

VALUE BET - #3 - Sneaky Paige
Sneaky Paige is a last start winner and can go on with it here. He stepped out three weeks between runs for Brad Widdup at Rosehill two weeks ago when sitting on the leaders heels and looming ominously at the top of the straight before jetting away to win very well in the straight. He was far too strong for them there and whilst he does meet a tougher field now he’s hard fit, in form and ready to fire again.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Caulfield.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
