Saturday Racing Tips - Caulfield Racecourse 16/12/23

Another massive race day heads to Caulfield tomorrow with a $1.3 million dollar card and the feature of the day being the Neds Supersized Saturday, a 1200m race for a share of $150k prize money. I have run through the three biggest races so follow me below for my best tips for Caulfield’s Saturday racing!

BEST BET - #4 - Ferago (NEXT BEST)
Ferago is a smart horse for Patrick Ryan who comes off the back of a run at this track and trip a fortnight ago and shapes up very well here. He sat just behind a hot speed then when veering out on the bend and chasing home a smart winner when placing third to Ruling. He now gets turned around a lot quicker and should be ready to win here.

THE DANGER - #3 - Alhambra Lad
Alhambra Lad gets turned around quickly for this assignment and is a horse I think that can hit hard on the quick turn around for Patrick Payne. He last raced a week ago over the 2000m at Ballarat where he was against the track bias and finished down the track behind Independent Road. He now gets out to his prime distance of 2400m and is ready to win in a light race.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Regal Power
Regal Power comes out of the Ballarat Cup last weekend where he was in the mud and just couldn’t get going when finishing far down the track behind Captain Envious. He now goes back up to the 2400m, is hard fit and gets his toes back above the ground. I think it should all combine for a good run.

BEST BET - #5 - Fullproof (BEST BET)
Fullproof is a sharp horse for the Freedman camp who seems to have come back in very good order. He returned at Ballarat in fine fashion before stepping out at The Valley where he won very well from out front. He now comes into this in form, hard fit and whilst he gets a test here I think he is up to it.

THE DANGER - #3 - Piaggio
Piaggio has resumed very well to racing for the Eurell camp and rates highly here. He returned to racing off of a 35 week spell at Sandown Lakeside a couple weeks back when setting fourth in the run before just being outkicked in the straight to narrowly miss and place second. He rates highly off the back of that, gets in well at the weights and can win now.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Pitchanun
Pitchanun is a solid horse for Danny O’Brien she just doesn’t win very often. She last raced in the Dunkeld Cup when not getting the easiest of run but still running home powerfully behind Station One, albeit too late in the piece. With a more economical run here she will feature.

BEST BET - #4 - Bermadez
Bermadez generally goes very very well with fresh legs and I think after resuming at Flemington on Cup Day where he closed the race off very very sharply to almost claim the race when only falling a head short of Pascero. The form reads very well here and I think he is going to run well here. 

THE DANGER - #9 - Dubai Poet
Dubai Poet is going to be prominent here undoubtedly for the Freedman’s and comes here out of a very strong race. He last stepped out about a month ago when coming on very strongly to finish just behind the placegetters in a strong race that was dominated by Pascero. That is standout form for this race and he should be rearing to go here with Kah aboard.

VALUE BET - #5 - My Khalifa (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
My Khalifa has to be overs here for the Richards / Moyle stable and comes up from South Australia and is a seven time winner and three time placegetter in thirteen 1400m starts. He gets out to this trip for the first time this campaign and is certainly ready to win third up and hard fit now. Neindorf retains the ride, is a definite winning chance.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Caulfield.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
