Saturday Racing Tips - Caulfield Racecourse 18/11/23

Another massive Group 1 race day heads to Caulfield tomorrow for Caulfield Cup Day with the Group 1 Neds Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes being the feature of the day, a 1400m WFA race for a share of $1m prize money. It’s going to be an awesome day with four stakes race as well as another group 1 race to support and I have run through the three biggest races so follow me below for my best tips for Caulfield Cup Day racing!

BEST BET - #2 - Brave Mead
I think that Brave Mead rates very highly here for Maher and Eustace and is the leading contender here. He smashed a three year old field here two runs back over this trip before stepping out in the Carbine Club Stakes and chasing hard all straight at Flemington when placing third. I think he’s much better suited around a turn and is hard fit and ready to win this.

THE DANGER - #1 - Arkansaw Kid
Arkansaw Kid is approaching his peak here and I think deserves a level of respect in this field. He won well here before going straight out to the Coolmore Stud last time out in a race where he wasn’t totally suited to the fast tempo when finishing down the track behind Ozzmosis. I think he’s the class horse of the field and surely runs well here.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Run Harry Run (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Run Harry Run comes up at a big price and I think he is a winning chance here. He’s a beautifully bred animal who is a sizeable horse and is still green but gee does he move well. He won the Bendigo Cup last time out in a tough effort and of course this is a big step up in competition but I have a sneaky suspicion he will rise to the occasion and am keen to see how he goes here.

BEST BET - #2 - Coeur Volante (BEST BET)
How are you going to knock Coeur Volante for the Moroney camp. He’s won his past three, making that three wins in four career starts and the way he continues to step up to every challenge he is thrown into is just too impressive to ignore. He came from an awkward draw to win the Thousand Guineas Prelude so well, the only query is the Mile but that’s hardly a concern and she’s drawn perfectly now, Shinn on. She’s the one to beat clearly.

THE DANGER - #3 - Skybird
All you can do is win and that is what this Filly has done. She last stepped out in the Fillies Classic and it was honestly insane what she was able to produce from a terrible spot where Mertens just found a gap near the rail and she flew home to win very very sharply. The query is her stepping up to this level of competition and whilst she could be more than up to the task I just can’t take her over Coeur Volante at equal odds.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Kimochi
Kimochi should relish getting out to the Mile now for Gary Portelli. She ran very well in the Flight Stakes which is the best form reference for this before having a little break and then running in The Desirable at Flemington when she came off the speed and ran on very strongly into third place there. She’s proven at this trip and brings the perfect formlines here. Top chance, don’t be fooled by the price.

BEST BET - #11 - Magic Time (NEXT BEST)
Magic Time is the straight bat option here and comes into this three weeks since last stepping out for the Begg stable in The Invitation where she just kept finding the line with real purpose despite having to do things tough out wide before being just beaten near the line by star G1 horse Espiona. If she holds form here she wins this.

THE DANGER - #3 - Strait Acer
Oh I love this horse. Strait Acer was one of the most impressive gallopers this spring and now maes his Victorian Debut. This race is easier than the Golden Eagle he contested last start when running fourth. He comes back in trip now, brings the Sydney form which is the A1 form in the country and a win here would put a smile on my face.

VALUE BET - #12 - Munhamek
Munhamek looks like he has been primed for this race. He resumed two weeks back at Flemington over this trip where he got a perfect steer by Blake Shin from out wide but by the time he got an appropriate split it was just a bit too late to win there. He loves it here, gets off a genuine tempo and will be flying home late again.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Caulfield.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
