Saturday Racing Tips - Caulfield Racecourse 22/07/23

It’s Bletchingly Stakes day already at Caulfield and black type racing continues at the course as we are well underway the Victorian Winter Racing carnival and we have a bumper nine race card set for Caulfield with a bunch of Open sprints and staying races and one BM70 and BM78 sprint on the card as well. The feature of the day is the listed Bletchingly Stakes that is an open WFA sprint over the 1200m which should prove riveting. I have gone through the entire card and picked out my best betting spots on the card so follow me below for another high level Saturday of racing!

BEST BET - #3 - Moveforlex (NEXT BEST)
I am a big fan of Pat Payne’s work at the moment and am rolling with his momentum as well as I think that Moveforlex is a pretty good horse who has heaps of upside and should be at / near peak fitness third up going into this assignment. He debuted at Mornington in the mud over the 1500m where he didn’t look to handle the going before running two weeks back out to 2000m at this course where he sat just off the pace and found the line well to run second there. Natural step out in distance, fitter and ready for the trip now with Egan aboard, tough to beat you’d imagine.

THE DANGER - #2 - King’s Crossing
King’s Crossing is as honest as they come for Danny O’Brien and will be hard to beat here under Shinn’s steering. His most recent run came over 100m longer than this in the Mahogany Final at Flemington where he settled close to the tail of the field and came on very well in the straight to finish second to First Immortal which is great form for this less deep assignment. I am pretty keen to see how he goes but I suspect he will make this a race.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Daddy Frank
I was tempted to go with #4 - Fun Sunday for Brad Widdup but I just feel like Daddy Frank is more of a chance at actually winning, not just filling the trifecta. Maher and Eustace trained three year old last race 6 weeks ago on the Hillside course at Sandown where he got a suck run on the worst part of the track and eased out of the race down the stretch but was in hot form with a win and close placing before. He still looked to handle this distance last time out and with a more economical run he will be strong all run here.

BEST BET - #8 - Mollynickers (BEST BET)
Mollynickers is going to be a tough horse to beat here for Peter Moody. She’s only had the two career starts for the stable and the most recent of which saw her resume in a 1200m Moe Maiden where she found the line with real purpose in the last 200m and looked to have plenty more to offer still when crossing the post as a soft winner. Goes out to 1400m with plenty of upside only second up now and will be sure to put in a good effort.

THE DANGER - #4 - Inexorable 
Inexorable poses the most real threat to Mollynickers out of any of the runners in this field for the Begg stable. He debuted on the synthetic just shy of a month ago when showing some real talent to come from last to nearly win the race and just fall short into second but clocked some lethal splits for the synthetic. He should relish stepping out in trip now and this is only his second start at the races so you’d suspect good things to come.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Balgowan
Balgowan should be improving into this race for Mick Kent in just her second start. She ran on debut over the 1400m at Werribee in the Heavy a fortnight back where she bounced onto the speed and had a decent kick in the straight but couldn’t go on with a smart winner there. She gets in well weighted, draws barrier two and with C Williams on they should only run well.

BEST BET - #6 - It'sourtime
I don’t think that the Danny O’Brien trained It’sourtime will need to lift too aggressively here to be winning this against some rivals that she now meets fitter. She was five weeks between runs when racing in the Vic Sprint Series Final two weeks ago at Flemington over this distance where she chased hard in the last 200m to start to emerge in the run and look the winner but was held up at the 100m and kept coming on strongly to place second. Quicker turn around this time, which I like and think that in this small field Allen can have her near the front and she will be ready to launch from there.

THE DANGER - #2 - General Beau
General Beau should appreciate getting back to 1200m and can make it his first win at the distance at this track that he loves the most. The Ellertong trained runner has had two close placings in his last two runs, the most recent of which coming two weeks ago at this track over the 1100m when he sat off a hot speed and did well to find the line strongly to finish just behind the placegetters. Off the back of that run it does look like the extra 100m will be suited to how he is going at the moment.

VALUE BET - #5 - Mnementh (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Mnementh is a great horse for Mitch Beer that just keeps being prominent and cannot be discounted. He raced last time out off a six week break in the Vic Sprint Series Final where he sped out to lead and Shinn gave him a hold from there to control the race and then asked for the effort late and he powered away for an extremely impressive never in doubt win. He beat a couple of the key chances in this field that day and can do it again.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Caulfield.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
