Saturday Racing Tips - Caulfield Racecourse 27/04/24

Racing comes back to Caulfield racecourse for what looks like a very strong midweek meeting with some sharp debutantes amidst other high level animals that are stepping out here. I have run through and picked out my best betting spots across the card so follow me below as I run through the entire card!

#1 - Pounding (BEST BET) - $2.45

BEST BET - #1 - Pounding (BEST BET)
Pounding is the class horse in this field but does encounter a couple challenges here being that he doesn’t draw to have the best run here and does have to lug the big weight but I think that he should just have the level to overcome the challenges that he faces here. He was brilliant when resuming in the Country Discovery at Yarra Valley when flying home from the rear of the field and now goes out in trip, better for the run and will be strong here. 

THE DANGER - #3 - Barbie’s Fox
Barbie’s Fox is another sharp horse and I think poses the main danger here for the Hayes boys. She comes out of the Queen Of The Turf at Randwick where she was far from disgraced when running home behind Zougotcha when not a winning threat. Melbourne’s had a bit of rain this week which will only aid her cause with edge off the track and she comes way back in depth for this, go well. 

VALUE BET  - #10 - Belle Savoir
Belle Savoir is another who rates highly coming way back in depth here for Nick Ryan and out of the Bendigo Gold Bracelet where he came on late to finish very well behind some sharp horses when running into midfield. He gets in light here, draws a solid gate and will be strong with Bates aboard undoubtedly.

BEST BET - #2 - Magnaspin (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Magnaspin is one of my favourite horses going around and I was stupid enough to take him on last time out at The Valley where he led throughout in a strong 2040m race and found plenty in the straight to win very well. He’s got a great racing pattern and loves this trip, I think he will have to roll a sharp one in Berkeley Square but they should also be a lot closer in the market. 

THE DANGER - #4 - Berkeley Square
Berkeley Square is a class horse for Dan O’Sullivan who is almost a month between runs for Dan O’Sullivan since contesting the Easter Cup at this track and trip where he was near last in the run but still ran on strong when never really a threat behind Captain Envious. I think he’ll be stronger here but I’m not sure he should be such a short favourite. 

VALUE BET  - #6 - Regal Azmon 
Begal Azmon clocked an absolutely blitzing win in the Jack Elliott at Caulfield a couple weeks ago over the mile when we had something on and he peaked third up, doing the best work from out wide to go clear of them late. I think that based off of how strong he was late and through the line he can appreciate the rise to this trip now.

BEST BET - #5 - The Astrologist (NEXT BEST) 
Astrologist should have panels on these in theory as he is back miles back in depth for this. He hasn’t raced since messing up the start and trying hard between runners but just not able to come on behind Imperatriz. Think about the fact he was behind Imperatriz when you look at this field. Given that, I think he should just be beating these.

THE DANGER - #4 - Rey Magnerio
Rey Magnerio just continues to improve for the Griffiths and De Kock camp and has now won six of his eleven career starts, coming out of a run at this track and trip behind Brudenell in the Bel Espirit where he ran on brilliantly to finish third. He clocked some good splits there and is a leading contender. 

VALUE BET - #7 - Semillion
Semillion has the talent to measure up here, coming to this course a month between runs since racing at Bendigo over the 1100m where he was on the speed throughout and did plenty of good work before his first up fitness just saw him fade late behind Senegalia. He’s much fitter now and goes out to the 1200m here, go well at a nice price.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Caulfield.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
