Saturday Racing Tips - Doomben Racecourse 01/04/23

Saturday racing comes back to Doomben for an exciting nine race meeting that is mostly going to see some talented sprinters going head to head but there is also the lone staying race over 2200m in race two and to close out the card. There’s a total of $785,000 prize money available on the card and the card is highlighted by the MEKKAFEST 19 AUGUST QUALITY in race seven for a share of $125,000. It should make for an exciting day of racing. Follow me below as I outline the card.

BEST BET - #3 - Tricketeer (NEXT BEST)
Interesting little race we have here to open the card and I am keen to have something on Tricketeer who should relish getting out to the 1200m. THe Michael Nolan trained runner looked like she was going to thrash them when resuming over the 1000m at the Sunshine Coast but he only started going just too late in the piece to come second but there was a big gap to third there. He gets in well at the weights here, can make his own luck and if responds a bit sharper this time when asked for it I think he wins.

THE DANGER - #4 - Oceans Of Energy
Oceans of Energy is a very smart filly for Matt Dunn that debuted at the races at Grafton over the 1000m under Andrew Mallyon and he only had to ask for a bit of effort there when she motored away to clear the field and score in style. She hasn’t done too much in the lead up trials to this but clearly the debut run lived up the market expectations and she can improve into this and make it another win.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Russian Alliance
Russian Alliance hasn’t done much wrong in his three career starts for the Kemp stable. On debut at his local track of Toowoomba he was far from disgraced when fourth in the field before taking a little break from the races. She’s returned in super order where she showed her class in both of her return runs, winning after doing similar in both, letting down hard on the turn from wherever she lands up in the run to score impressively. She can complete the hat trick now.

BEST BET - #7 - Dune Forty Five - (NEXT BEST)
Dune Forty Five did it in style first up and if you can back that she beat anything notable and honestly even if she didn’t that win was mighty impressive. It seems like Rob Heathcoate has had her in great order since taking over training duty and ownership from Tony Haydon. His late splits were very very good and he doesn’t exactly meet the toughest field here. I am keen to have something on

THE DANGER - #3 - Stuttering
Stuttering is going amazingly this prep. He ran at this track two weeks back over the 1350m when he sat on the speed and chased hard all run but just couldn’t quite get one over the fitter Last Chance to go down second behind him. If he gets the run to suit he should have plenty to give inside that last 400m

VALUE BET  - #4 - Sagacious 
Sagacious comes into this three weeks after her last run at Eagle Farm where she got well out of her ground in an attempt to lead there but even though he wore down a bit he still had a solid kick, then faded behind Santero who won in Metro grade last week. I think that form is very genuine and he maps to take up the front running which is exactly what he likes.

BEST BET - #11 - Spirit Queen
Spirit Queen is a smart prospect for the O’Dea/Hoystead camp that recently ran in the three-year-old Jewel at this track over this distance when she came from all the way back near last to shift out on the turn and motor home late where she really looked the winner but just couldn’t catch All That Pizzaz, who herself is an extremely impressive horse. I think she will sit right on the speed here and she will be hard to run down from the front.

THE DANGER - #1 - Lubrication
Lubrication is a very well bred filly for Matt Dunn that is resuming on race day today. He had a pretty good first prep and showed plenty of promise back last Summer where he finished that off with a win in the Pierata Plate as he just powered to the line from well behind the speed. His lead up trials have looked good and whilst he may need a run or two back from the spell I don’t think this is out of reach first up.

VALUE BET - #3 - Ekaterina (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Ekaterina should be improving into this well off of her first up run in the aforementioned three-year-old Jewel race that Spirit Queen was in and he just gave them way too much of a start there and wasn’t a threat but she still finished things off very nicely there late. She maps to have the chance to settle further forward and it’s only a matter of if she wants it off the jump. If she does find a spot on the speed I think her change of gears should carry her well into this.
