BEST BET - #5 - Mississippi Prince
Not sure if there’s any value picking Mississippi Prince in what is quite an open BM90 but she really should be hard to beat here for the Gray stable. She resumed back in April and was having quite a successful prep and then was thrown into The Star two back when she really should have been given a break from racing and it told when finishing down the track. She was subsequently given a break which she relished when returning to racing last time out at Ipswich in a strong BM78 where she crossed, led and won easily over the 1666m. That run should hold her in good stead for this assignment, she gets in at just 54.5kg after the claim from Graham, draws a much better gate here and I think she will be tough to beat from out front.
THE DANGER - #8 - Seleque (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Chris Waller wins races like these and I think that Seleque is a prime candidate that fits the bill. She’s very god at this track with a win and a half length beaten placing in three runs here and most recently she ran over the mile at Eagle Farm five weeks ago where she did plenty wrong and couldn’t really get into the race. I think we can forgive her for a bad day and that is likely why we see the price we do. Her form otherwise up north is very good and with the lead in trial she should be right for this.
VALUE BET - #9 - Wairere Falls
We have backed Wairere Falls as an outside chance recently when he raced in a solid BM90 at the beginning of last month over the 1810m at Eagle Farm where he trucked along before shifting out to start a run in the straight but then seemingly folding. He has been given a little break for this and goes very well with fresh legs, if he can be dragged into the race from the speed out front then I think he will be doing good work late and can fill a trifecta spot, he just isn’t really a horse that likes to win.
