Saturday Racing Tips - Doomben Racecourse 10/02/24

A good support card up North comes back to Doomben with ten races at one of Queensland’s premier Saturday racing tracks and I have run through the card and picked out my best betting spots. There seems to be some very progressive horses stepping out at the meeting so watch for them in my tips below!

BEST BET - #5 - Miss Busslinger (BEST BET)
Miss Busslinger looks like a good bet to kick off the day up north for Kris Lees and I think coming here second up and out 110m in trip off of her debut at the Sunshine Coast where she was very strong through the line after being a bit slowly away is positive for her. The horse she ran behind is in this week’s Inglis Millenium so I think the form stacks up for this.

THE DANGER - #4 - Fields Amour
Fields Amour is a smart horse for Lee Freedman who comes here a couple weeks since debuting over the 800m at Ipswich where she found the front early and didn’t give any other horses a chance to get into the race when winning very well then. She has to bridge the gap up to the 1110m now but I back her to be up to the task here.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Aikau
Aikau is a very well bred horse for Lee Freedman that debuts here. He’s a child of Yes Yes Yes who has had a couple of trials with the most recent being a smart gallop at Daegon where he ran a solid second place over the 650m in good time. The stable is flying with their juveniles and I think they have something up their sleeve with this guy, go well.

BEST BET - #3 - Notaclutehoworwho 
Notaclutehoworwho should be very prominent here after running at Eagle Farm on Australia Day where he sat back off the speed and launched late at the field but just couldn’t get there when just going down late to Last Chance. He has been turned around a lot quicker now and with the 1400m run under his belt he will be sharp here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Russian Mystic
Russian Mystic is a smart horse for Barry Lockwood that rates as a top chance for Barry Lockwood after resuming just over a week ago over this track and trip where he had to do a tonne of work from the wide gate but found himself on the speed and just couldn’t get the win when running a narrow runner up. He will be fitter for that run and with a softer time of things in transit he should be prominent here.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Quothquan (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Quothquan has to be given a look here after he resumed to racing for the Dann stable off of a 23 week break and did so with a bang. He returned to racing here over the 1200m a couple weeks ago when setting sixth in the run and just away from the rail before clicking up hard in the straight and powering home for a good win. He has plenty of upside coming into this, gets a good claim from Molloy and should be prominent here. Over the odds for me.

BEST BET - #4 - Viminele (NEXT BEST)
You wouldn’t normally catch me betting in a get out but I think Viminele is worth a bet here for the Gough camp. He stepped out a fortnight ago at the Sunshine Coast when flying home in the straight, recording some of the best closing splits of the day but just unable to catch the winner when placing second to Heroic Miss. He is a specialist at this course and distance and I think he wins this.

THE DANGER - #12 - Hellavadancer
Hellavadancer maps to find the front and with the bias at Doomben this course will only aid her chances of winning here. She last ran three weeks back at Eagle Farm when powering along the speed and then being asked for the effort in the straight by Mallyon where she drew clear of them for a soft win. She is definitely taking a step up in competition for this assignment but I think she is up to it.

VALUE BET - #11 - Awol
Awol has proved to be quite a sharp horse for the Walsh camp with three wins in ten runs and comes here second up from a 14 week spell after coming across to the Walsh camp from Ciaron Maher and he kicked things off quite nicely for the new stable when stepping out at Rockhampton over the 1200m and levelling up at the top of the straight before kicking away at the 350m and never being in doubt from there. He should progress plenty from there and is one to watch here.

For Doomben it is crucial to take into account the biases on the track and focus on horses that are deeper into their preps and also to consider their suitability to the conditions.
