Saturday Racing Tips - Doomben Racecourse 11/02/23

Metro grade racing continues at Doomben to close out what has been an awesome Summer Carnival up north and there is a stacked nine race card with a bunch of exciting sprints and a total of $745,000 prize available across the card. The rail is in true position and the weather should be clear and hot, the track is expected to be a good 4 and I think it will remain within this range.

BEST BET - #4 - Rupert’s House (BEST BET)

Rupert’s House looks like he will make a winning debut for the Baker stable. He has had a few Rosehill trials to ready him for this and the stable looks like they are making a push for a first up win on the back of both of those smart trial wins. He does draw a bad gate but he looks like he will roll forward and I don’t think there will be much stopping him once he does.

THE DANGER - #12 - Queen’s Arms

Queen’s Arms is a filly by Rich Enuff that’s on debut for the Bruce stable and I think that the few trials she has had are good enough for this with the latest being a smart win over the 1050m at Deagon, she also maps to roll forward and I will be keen to see if she can take this out.

VALUE BET  - #11 - Mishani Metallic
Mishani Metallic is in with a shot here off the back of her last run a fortnight ago on the Gold Coast synthetic track where she sat just off the speed and found the line really well behind the smart Tengun Ready to end up second. She ran well before then at Ipswich behind the in form Sunday Mail and I think that all reads well enough for this.

BEST BET - #1 - Tilianam - (NEXT BEST)
He is one of the most primed to take this out, she has been going well for Tony Gollan. She raced three weeks ago under Angela Jones and she fought hard through the entire run but just couldn’t wear down her smart stablemate Rock Amore and landed up in a narrow second. She drops back in grade now and is a top chance to go over.

THE DANGER - #5 - Petunia
Petunia is absolutely flying for the Schweida stable and is the biggest threat to Tilianam. She has picked up a bunch of smart wins outside of his home stable and then came to this track three weeks ago when getting too far back but she came on super strong and the time reads well. If she’s around the mark on the turn she will fight out the finish.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Bold and Lucy (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Bold and Lucy is a Taylor trained mare that mixes her form but she is hitting at the moment winning three weeks ago over this track/distance with an unbelievable final few strides to win off a tough, out wide run. Her form was franked last Saturday and now goes back to mares grade now, can take this out.

BEST BET - #8 - Coco Rox (NEXT BEST)
Coco Rox is suited back to 1200m and for mine can run a much improved race. Several weeks between runs since racing over 1300m at the Gold Coast where she attempted to lead throughout but 1300m was a bridge too far and she felt the pinch late behind a quality filly in the Latakia. I reckon two big ticks are back to 1200m and I think getting a more conservative steer will help her cause.

THE DANGER - #5 - Queen Bellissimo
Queen Bellisimo hasn’t been doing much of late but in 2021 she was an exceptional animal, one of the best in the country. She switched over to the Schweida stable and I am looking forward to seeing what they produce with James Orman aboard. She looks well suited here first up and I think if the ground has a bit less sting in it she will look even better.

VALUE BET - #15 - Deepour 
Deepour gets his chance now in Metro Grade. He’s had three runs for the Campton stable and has looked great in all of them, winning his last two at Sunshine Coast over the 1000m where he has been crushing his rivals. The stable have been carefully selecting their metro grade runners and this race isn’t particularly strong. He can win.

Jimmy Orman, the wizard of the North returns to Doomben for this Saturday’s racing and he loves this track. He has a 15% win rate and is a veteran at this track, also being super active with over 200 rides here in the last year. He gets another top selection of rides for this Saturday and I think he will nab a couple winners.

I have gone with a similar strategy for my Doomben multi as I have with Sandown in that it is quite a tricky track and so I have prioritised those that have come from local stables, those that are locally trained and also have given a fair bit of weight to the track bias and barrier bias as well.
