Saturday Racing Tips - Doomben Racecourse 18/03/23

It’s QTIS Jewel Day at Doomben and we have a stacked nine race card with a bunch of sprints and a couple staying races. The day is highlighted by the two 1200m open races, the Sky Racing QTIS Jewel and the Channel 7 QTIS Jewel and supported by a handful of other exciting races. The track is rated a soft 5, the rail is out +1.5m and this should all make for a solid day of racing.

Doomben R1 - LADBROKES MATES MODE (BM78) (1050m)

Selections:
#6 - Hold On Honey (NEXT BEST) - $3.60
#11 - Situation Room - $6.00
#3 - Zuma California - $9.50
#2 - Shamrock Lu - $13.00

BEST BET - #6 - Hold On Honey (NEXT BEST)
I wouldn’t normally be betting in the earlier races but I do feel like this is a great spot for Hold On Honey who is racing for the O’Dea/Hoystead camp and comes into this three weeks between runs after racing at this track/distance and whilst he tried hard all run he felt the effort late and went down as a close third to his stablemate Fetch. As long as his recovery off the back of that run is sound I think he should go one better this time in.

THE DANGER - #11 - Situation Room
Situation Room has been going very well this campaign for Tony Gollan with two wins in six attempts thus far and a handful of close placings. Most recently, he gave nothing else a chance to win at this track over the 1200m where he crossed early from a wide gate, led and easily held them at bay with a strong kick into the straight. He draws wide again but doesn’t have to do any better than that last effort and the drop back in distance is understandable here.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Zuma California
Zuma California had a pretty frustrating Summer prep without picking up any wins but he did end it off with a solid effort in The Gateway even though it appeared he had his chance there without producing the flash finish. However, he’s a very good fresh horse, has had the trial win at Toowoomba last week to lead him into this and I thought he was excellent there. If he jumps well he will be right up on the speed and will fight out the finish.

Doomben R7 - LADBROKES RACE MULTI (RS0MW) (1200m)

Selections:
#9 - Trifling - $6.50
#8 - Mishani Royale - $3.70
#4 - Rupert's House - $4.40
#5 - Top Fun (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $51.00

BEST BET - #9 - Trifling- (NEXT BEST)
Trifling has been kept on ice since her dominant win at Eagle Farm just over a month ago where she gave them a head start on her before letting down just after the turn and throttling them with a powerful kick to win well and make it two in a row. I think they have kept her for this race specifically and she should get the perfect run in transit with a genuine tempo which suits her even more. I am happy to have something on and look forward to seeing what she produces.

THE DANGER - #8 - Mishani Royale
Mishani Royale is a Les Ross trained filly and has to be respected on that alone. She went so well when winning the Fillies Prelude two weeks ago, drawing clear of the field with a strong turn of foot all after leading them. That time was absolutely blistering and that’s all the more impressive from the front. Before that win she won with plenty in hand at the 1100m and as such I don’t see the 1200m being too much of an issue for her. Top threat.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Top Fun (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Top Fun might not be a winning chance here as he’s been lugged out wide again in the barriers but to count him out the way the market has for at least a placing or top four spot I think is crazy. He ran at the 1000m two weeks back in the Boys Prelude and went from last to third behind the fitter/better run Spin Doctor. Off the back of that it seems that 1200m will be good and if he is in even a half decent spot on the turn I think he will be in the finish.

Doomben R8 - CHANNEL 7 QTIS JEWEL (1200m)

Selections:
#1 - All That Pizzazz (BEST BET) - $3.30
#11 - She'sgottheboom - $7.00
#14 - Ekaterina - $9.50
#2 - Steady Ready - $6.50

BEST BET - #1 - All That Pizzazz (BEST BET)
I think All That Pizzazz is genuinely that good and has resumed with this race in mind for Tony Gollan. He returned to racing after a ten week break at Eagle Farm at the beginning of this month over the 1000m and whilst he was a bit keen in the early stages, over racing then, he had far too much class for them and let down late to salute. I think that out to 1200m second up as a fresh firing horse is great off the back of that and I trust Gollan to have him in good order for this. He maps to sit up on the speed with not too much hassle and should have the change of gears late to run them home.

THE DANGER - #11 - She'sgottheboom
She’sgottheboom won the 2YO Jewel last year so I am interested to see if she can back that up as a 3YO. She resumed two weeks ago over the 1110m here where the market thought she needed the run and she did, tiring late behind Burnish Gold. That run was enough given it was her first since last August and she has the class/quality over a lot of these as well as the prospective natural improvement,

VALUE BET - #14 - Ekaterina
Ekaterina is a quality filly for Rob Heathcoate that resumes here today and she can easily resume with a win. She hasn’t raced since New Years Eve in the Vo Rogue and she was too far back in the run there and whilst she did make up ground from the back she was never a threat behind Fashion Legend who then went on to win the Magic Millions Guineas, so the form reads well and she will be strong late off of a genuine tempo.

He’s had over 200 rides here and gets another top booking of rides for Saturday.

Best Promotions for Doomben Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
