Saturday Racing Tips - Doomben Racecourse 22/04/23

Doomben will continue as host to the Brisbane Winter Carnival this Saturday, where nine exciting races will take place, including several Stakes races. The program includes races ranging in distance from a 1,110-metre sprint in race five to a staying race over 2,200 metres in race two. The total prize purse for all races on the card is $970,000, and the track conditions are soft 5, with the rail in the true position for the entire circuit.

BEST BET - #4 - Oceans of Energy (BEST BET) 
I don’t think now is the time to jump off Ocean’s of Energy who has won both of her career outings to date when debuting at Grafton on a bog track and scoring dominantly there before going to Grafton just under a month ago where she sat behind the speed before angling into the straight and just having too much class. Still has room to improve off the back of that and can make it a hat trick.

THE DANGER - #2 - Russian Alliance
Russian Alliance looks like the main threat in this field after scoring in three of four in her career so far with the most recent being on her home track of Toowoomba over the 1000m where they ran it hard in front but she still just had too much for them, managing to get one over the field in a very smart win. THe win before that was over the 1100m where she was dominant so 1200m looks good and I think she will make this a tight contest.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Shamedy
Shamedy is as honest as they come and has been running a lot but maps to find the front here without too much trouble and should be hard to run down from there in a style of racing he favours. He dominantly won at Rockhampton a few weeks ago over this trip when able to sustain a hot speed from the front and never gave anything the chance to get into the race. Of course this field is tougher but he should be competitive at the odds.

BEST BET -#1 - Rousseau (NEXT BEST)
Interesting mid distance race but I am keen to be with the Waller trained Rousseau who is flying this prep. He trialled well before resuming at this track three weeks ago over the 1350m where he got very far back in the run from a wide gate but just powered home ever so honestly into fourth when beaten just under two lengths. He is proven second up and the Mile looks very good for him, he shouldn’t be as far back this time either and should have an even better kick for them this time.

THE DANGER - #5 - Alburq
Alburq is a deserving favourite in this field, he’s been running very well this prep after resuming in the same race as Rousseau a few weeks ago under Boris Thornton when he gave a sight out front but just couldn’t close it off behind Mississippi Prince who took that race out. He has a very good second up record and has been flying since Brian Smith took ownership of him. Top Chance.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Without Revenge
The David Vandyke trained Without Revenge looks like a very good gelding who resumed a couple weeks ago in what looked like a lead up to this where he just plugged away for the majority of the run, not threatening, but showed a very good change up of speed late when motoring home. 1615m is a big positive, will be fitter and has heaps of upside off that first up run.

BEST BET - #2 - Canadian Dancer
The O’dea/Hoystead trained mare looks like the leading contender in this race, resuming on this race day. She hasn’t been seen since New Years Eve at Randwick when racing over the mile in a strong BM78 when being as honest as ever, coming third to Banju, who has lengths on these. That form reads very well for this and she runs well fresh, the trial indicates she’s ready. Keen on her.

THE DANGER - #10 - Beaux Rumble 
Beaux Rumble is a proven third up winner and has been knocking on the door this prep for Heinrich. She ran second in the Birriecart two weeks ago when sitting outside the speed and just tiring late to go down to one of her stale mates. She should be ready to peak and meets some softer competition than her last run, drops a bit of weight for this and maps well. Very dangerous.

VALUE BET - #1 - South Parade (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
South Parade has changed camps to Mark Currie and whilst he likes to mix his form, its very clear that when he gets things right he is a black type horse. He’s had a month between runs, and should retain fitness from that last run at Sandown in stronger company than this. He takes a nice weight claim for this and draws a good gate, if Currie has him right for this he can surprise this field. Big chance if he shows up.
