Saturday Racing Tips - Doomben Racecourse 25/02/23

Metro Grade racing continues at Doomben and what a Summer it’s been up North throughout the Queensland Summer Carnival. There is a stacked nine race card on the program with $745,000 prize available across the card and the track is expected to be a soft 5, the rail is out +3m and with all the sprints on the card it should make for an exciting day.

BEST BET - #1 - Adelad (NEXT BEST)
Adelad should relish the step up in trip to the 1350m after running last Thursday at Ipswich over the 1200m where he sat back in the field and timed his run to perfection to finish over the top of the field and score impressively and there isn’t much depth in the opposition he meets on Saturday so I think he only needs to replicate that effort to score again. Short quote is justified.

THE DANGER - #8 - O’Polly
O’Polly debuted over the 1000m a few weeks ago at Eagle Farm where she ran hard and fast all run and was pretty good to the line but didn’t threaten Glass Of Rose. I think that the step up to 1350m looks good based off the way she closed off that race. She gets well down in weight for this which is a bonus and so she must be respected here.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Storm Force Ten
Storm Force Ten I am convinced will make big improvements off the back of his Debut at Ipswich last week over the 1200m. He sat on the speed all run but when Jimmy Orman asked him for more he couldn’t provide when coming fourth to the smart Adelad. He will be better for the run and he can improve into this massively.

BEST BET - #5 - Befana (BEST BET)
The Lindsay Hatch trained Befana is three weeks between runs coming into this after racing over the 1000m at Eagle farm. She got well back in the field there and I really liked how hard she worked to the line late to end up third to the fitter/in form Streaka when only beaten half a length. She has run well at this track and distance previously and natural improvement should see her hard to beat in this.

THE DANGER - #9 - Sabalenka
Sabalenka is a Heathcoate trained mare that resumed over 1200m at Ipswich at the beginning of this month and she got a dream run there behind the speed and when she got a bit of breathing room she went off like a jet and was far too good for those. She looks like she would improve with the run and before that win I actually thought she would need it for a second up run, she can go on with it now.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Baristasista
Baristasista will relish getting onto softer ground and should be hard fit coming into this, she ran at this track last time out when fourth of ten in stronger company than this. She picked up a win three runs back in Toowoomba and has been holding form well since and only needs a touch of luck here to be in the finish.

BEST BET - #12 - Fetch
Fetch resumes on Saturday for the O’dea and Hoystead camp and she has been away from the races for a little while, not having raced since October 22nd when she was wide throughout, doing it tough and she just dropped off late because of that to finish a length off Five Oxford. I think she can return to the races a winner as she goes beautifully fresh and looked to truck through the run in a trial kast week. She’s the one they will have to beat.

THE DANGER - #14 - Stellar Magic
Stellar Magic is the stablemate of Fetch that recently resumed over this distance here about a month ago and was great coming from near last on the corner to narrowly miss the win to Princess Bojack. She has a great second up record and drops down in weight and should sit off the speed and be super strong late.

VALUE BET - #7 - Maximum Output (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Maximum Output ran here two weeks ago and was very good late in the piece but still was no match late for the fitter/stronger Deepour. He is a proven winner at the 1100m but with the soft trip he maps to get in transit 1050m should be great as well. I expect a big showing at the odds.

He has a 15% win rate and is a veteran at this track, also being super active with over 200 rides here in the last year. I have gone with a similar strategy for my Doomben multi as I have with Sandown in that it is quite a tricky track and so I have prioritised those that have come from local stables, those that are locally trained and also have given a fair bit of weight to the track bias and barrier bias as well.
