Saturday Racing Tips - Doomben Racecourse 30/12/23

Racing returns to Doomben for Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate day and we have two listed races on the card with the Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate being the feature of the day, a 1350m Open race for a share of $300k prize money and it is supported by another stakes race after run over the 1200m. I am keen to get stuck into it so follow me below!

BEST BET - #6 - Hardware Lane (NEXT BEST)
The way Hardware Lane is going and the fact that we are meant to have quite a wet track I think it is too good to go past him here for John Smerdon. He has won both of his past two runs, coming over the 1100m at Ipswich and in both he has been dominant. If the rain hits he wins, simple.

THE DANGER - #9 - Emperor
Emperor is obviously the best horse in the race it is again just a matter of how wet it gets here. He should have won last time out at Randwick when racing in the Highway but Nash actually gave him a pretty bad steer there which cost him the race. He now comes back in depth, light weight, just needs not too much give in the ground and he towels them.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Orbisyn
Orbisyn is coming off of a 16 week break from racing and hasn’t trialled leading up his return for David Vandyke which is why we see this price I guess but it isn’t unusual for Vandyke to resume his runners untrialled and Orbisyn has won half of his first up starts and nearly half of his overall career starts. I think it would be foolish to not at least see how he looks in the yard.

BEST BET - #2 - Chrysaor
Best horse in the field is Chrysaor who resumes here after having not been seen at the races since he took out the Callander-Presnell in dominant fashion. Waller has given him two trials to rev up for this as they look towards the Magic Millions and I think he takes it out here or goes very very close at worst.

THE DANGER - #3 - Show Me Mercy
Stuarrt Kendrick is obviously going to have something up his sleeve looking towards the Magic Millions and Show Me Mercy is just that horse after resuming a fortnight back at Doomben where he was absolutely flying home late to place third behind Abounding. He now gets a good inside draw, is fitter and goes out to this trip, should be strong as anything.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Deep Respect (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Deep Respect mixes his form a bit but if he steps out here with his manners in tune he can make an impressive. He had nothing to offer in the Gold Edition a couple weeks ago when burning the candle at both ends early but was putting in good runs prior and he now gets Blake Shinn for the ride so I think the stable has obviously had a bit of progress with him at camp.

Gotta be with Parisal here for Cummings as I keep missing the runners he has set up similarly like this. This girl hasn’t been seen since Champions Day at Flemington where she was only found out very late in the piece by General Beau after looking the winner a long way. Her tick over trial was fantastic and she should be tough to beat from where she maps to be out front, goes well in the wet too.

THE DANGER - #1 - Comrade Rosa
The home track warrior Comrade Rosa who is ex John O’Shea has to rate as the key danger here. She wasn’t very good on wet ground under John O’Shea which is the main concern but under this new camp there’s a good chance she is fine with it these days given she doesn’t get scratched.

VALUE BET - #12 - Chinny Boom 
Chinny Boom is a last start winner who seems to have returned to racing very well for the Taylor stable and can go on with it here. He is shaping up to be an impressive horse with seven wins in his eight career starts and last time out he resumed off of a 22 week break from racing with a very strong all the way win at Rockhampton. Will have more to offer here second up now.
