Saturday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm Racecourse 02/09/23

Racing returns to Eagle Farm this Saturday for Tatterstall’s Members Cup Day as the big racing in VIC and NSW is supported by a solid nine race card up North that is highlighted by the Group Three Eureka Stud Tattersall's Members Cup, run over 1400m in Open conditions. There are some very progressive horses making their way up North for the feature and meeting overall and I am keen to jump into things so follow me below!

BEST BET - #7 - Heleva Deel (NEXT BEST) 
Heleva Deel looks one of the better betting spots on the program for Mark Currie here and comes into this after racing two weeks ago here when she beat all but the ultra progressive Hokahey in a driving go off a tough run. That was at the 1400m and only second up in her prep and she now looks well suited to peak here third up and should run well out in trip.

THE DANGER - #4 - Lucky Exchange
I am a big fan of all the work Kelly Schweida has been doing this season and Lucky Exchange is a stable rep that looks to be getting out to his ideal distance range now and set to peak fourth up here. His last run came a fortnight ago at Doomben where he made heaps of ground late and was very strong through the line so stepping up from that effort at the Mile to this, with Jimmy Orman on, dangerous as ever.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Grecian Lass
Grecian Lass is a horse I have a bit of time for and winning form is good form which is what he presents with the Foster stable. He has won two of his last three, despite being Provincial wins he has earnt his crack at this grade and steps up to this distance range off the back of a soft 1500m win at Warwick and now gets the booking (and key claim) from Graham and I think she should run nicely here.

BEST BET - #4 - Hold On Honey (BEST BET) 
I think Hold On Honey looks tough to beat here for the O’Dea \ Hoystead camp who dominate the the first two lines of betting in this race but she looks to have a serious bit of class about her after resuming at this track over the 1000m a few weeks ago where she led all the way to home and his first up condition told very late in the piece when being run down by the fitter / further into prep Dalavin. He has a fantastic second up record, gets in light with the claim from Graham and if she can have him trail rather than lead he will be as good a chance as you can get.

THE DANGER - #11 - Nashira
Nashira is the other O’Dea / Hoystead representative in this race who dominates the second line of betting and resumed at this track and trip a couple weeks ago where she overcame what was a completely luckless run and she displayed good heart to still finish near the front. She maps to settle a lot closer in the run and gets in with pretty much no weight on her back with Thompson aboard they will surely run well.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Maximum Output
Maximum Output should go close here for Stuart Kendrick. He resumed a couple weeks back at the Sunshine Coast at long odds and sat on the speed there, looked the winner a long way and then went down late to a smart in form The Kewess. He has a solid second up record and seems to have returned in very good order off the back of that run, Bayliss on, surely runs well.

BEST BET - #1 - Cepheus 
Cepheus is going to be hard to beat here for the Dunn stable combining with Jimmy Orman and resumes from a short seven week let up after taking out the Grafton Cup over the mile where he took over at the 200m and was never in doubt from there, clocking a soft win with a bit of arrogance where he surprised me. His tick over trial suggests he is still moving very nicely and will have plenty to offer here and my only query is the drop back to 1400m but I think he handles it.

THE DANGER - #15 - Bullfinch
Bullfinch comes into this off of a little let up since the end of the month before last when he went away after racing at The Valley on a day where The Valley’s regular bias was even more extended than it normally is and he was completely against the shape of the race. I do think I could back him with a bit more confidence if he had stepped out to race again since then but he gets in super light with Thornton aboard and if I was more confident we probably wouldn’t be getting around $14.00 anyway. 

VALUE BET - #6 - Looks Like Elvis (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Looks Like Elvis is one who I have already put money on early as I think the market is going to catch up and change the price come closer to race time but this horse rarely ever puts a bad effort in at this track and generally runs very well second up. He’s got four wins and four second places in nine runs here, multiple second up wins and comes into this off the back of a resuming run at Rosehill where he was never in the race but will be a lot fitter for that effort as well.
