Saturday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm Racecourse 04/03/23

Racing continues at Eagle Farm off the back of what has been a great Queensland Summer Carnival and there is still an exciting nine race card to support our Black Type racing in NSW and VIC for this Saturday. The meeting mostly consists of sprints with a couple staying races and there is a total of close to $1 million in prize available across the card. The weather forecast is good, with the track expected to be a good (4) and the rail is in true position. Let’s get into it

#4 - Hokahey (BEST BET) - $3.80
#11 - Red Kite - $3.00

#5 - Magic Conqueror - $11.00

BEST BET - #4 - Hokahey (NEXT BEST)
Hokahey has become a new horse since coming to Jack Bruce, she’s raced at Doomben in both of her last two outings and won both of them smartly, the most recent of which was at the mile and she was dominant there, being super flash late to dash away. She maps to get a bit of cover on the speed and should still have plenty after the turn if her last two are any indication.

THE DANGER - #11 - Red Kite
Red Kite had has first run for Mark Currie a fortnight ago over the 1400m and that definitely showed he wanted longer and still could want longer than this but I personally think he’s going to be well suited here. Whilst he didn’t have that tune up speed he was still good to the line behind the fitter/in-form Comrade Rosa. This is a much more narrow field as well and he’s the one they’ll have to beat.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Karlstad
Karlstad has won here and is a genuine dry tracker so I think that all sets him up to progress very well here but he has had quite a few runs this prep without doing too much, hasn’t always had the conditions to suit. I think now he gets on top of firmer ground and meets softer company, with a good ping from the gate I think he can run a lot closer than he has been.

BEST BET - #1 - Tavi Time - (NEXT BEST)
Tavi Time is the Kris Lees star three year old that is looking to make it four wins in four runs this prep and wow he’s been fun to follow. He got the run of the meeting last time out at Canterbury but to be honest the way he took that out and the time that came from that suggests very little would have stopped him that day. They were easily some of the best of the meeting. This looks like it’ll be a sit/sprint and he has the biggest engine out of any of these.

THE DANGER - #8 - Tapildoodledo 
The Kerry Taplin trained Tapildoodledo comes into this towards the end of his prep but really does look to be finding form of late. He’s been behind The Vowels in both of his last two runs and at latest I liked what I saw when despite overracing for a bit midway through he battled on home to come second. He’s pretty one paced but has heart and speed and is super fit now so I think 1800m suits that.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Fairway Star
Fairway star is a Bjorn Baker three-year-old filly who has been awesome this campaign. She picked up a first up win at Newcastle before two close placings and then went on to win under the lights at Canterbury over the mile before stepping up to the 1900m at the same track last time and just not having enough to finish it off there. The jockey change is a bit of a query to the apprentice but she maps for a nice run in transit, is hard fit and knows how to win.

BEST BET - #2 - Namazu 
Namazu looks like the top pick in this field and he really seems to be enjoying his time under O’Dea/Hoystead and did a really good job fresh in the Sunshine Coast Cup when he finished runner up to Chaillot before coming out the mile here two weeks ago and despite racing a bit greenly through the run his class edge told late and he was far too good for them. He’s now third up and can run a belter of a race at this distance, only being better for his run here last time out.

THE DANGER - #7 - She’s The Gift (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
She’s The Gift is going through the motions towards a win for Waller. She ran in the same race as the aforementioned Namazu where she sat off the speed but the run wasn’t timed perfectly and she wore down a bit too early to miss to Namazu. There’s not too much form around her past the mile but I think off the back of that effort, as well as drawing the rail and the claim she can get one over on Namazu.

VALUE BET - #1 - Mohican Heights 
Mohican Heights drops back in grade here and should be hard fit and ready for this fourth up now after scoring smartly at this track two runs back over this distance she went to the Parramatta Cup but she just hung in a couple times there and got bumped around. I can forgive her for that, she meets softer opposition now and she can definitely take this out.
