Saturday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm Racecourse 05/08/23

Racing returns to Eagle Farm for a massive support card for the listed racing we see in NSW and VIC this Saturday and there looks to be some very nicely placed horses for the top Queensland and NSW stables here who will no doubt be in for big Spring preps. The card sees nine races in mixed grades and should feature some high level contests, I am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below for another great day of Queensland racing at Eagle Farm!

#2 - Nashira  - $5.50

#3 - Nord Lyon (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $8.50

BEST BET - #2 - Nashira
Pretty keen on the O’Dea/Hoystead trained Nashira who is a bomb fresh horse and resumes today in what looks like a very winnable race. His last campaign was pretty successful where he put together a bunch of sharp wins before producing an end of prep run at Doomben. His lead up trial and Jumpout work has all looked very sharp and as long as he is within range on the turn, which is the query, I think he has the class to take this out.

THE DANGER - #6 - Devastating
Devastating is the leading contender in this race and I can't really knock him really. He’s three weeks between runs and sure to have plenty of upside after resuming here at this distance off a long spell where he boxed along behind the speed and looked to start a big run in the straight but just couldn’t get one over the winner there and placed second. He’ll have plenty more to offer here second up and his condition will only be improved now.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Nord Lyon (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Nord Lyon ran last time out in the same race as Devastating behind Kat Chinna and if he can replicate the effort he put in prior to that at Sunshine Coast he has what it takes to win this for the Alderson stable. He gets in very well weighted with only 52kg on his back after the claim from Molloy and if he can lob onto the speed he will be tough to get past from there.

BEST BET - #3 - Tango Fever (BEST BET)
Tango Fever looks like a moral on paper here. This super progressive Rob Heathcoate trained horse resumed at this track three weeks ago under Harley when making her debut for the stable coming from Gary Portelli and whilst she didn’t beat a whole lot, the time and the way she did things first up suggests big things are to come. I am happy to take her at even’s and think she makes soft work of them from on the speed.

THE DANGER - #1 - Acres Away
Can’t knock winning form and Acres Away presents as an impressive horse who has won three of his four career starts so far and placed runner up in the other. His last run came at Mackay where he let them get a ways in front before powering over them dominantly in the end and clocking some nice splits. He’s obviously taking a huge step up in competition but only knows winning and has the right run style to take out a race like this.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Kitri
I’m a big fan of Mick Nolan and closely follow any runners he places up North and Kitri has the class to take this out at her best. She ran behind Tango Fever about a month ago before turning around on the one week back up at Doomben where she won in amazing style from last to first in a race where she relished the hot tempo. She looks very suited getting back onto this track that should give her every chance to come on and I think she is a genuine winning chance.

BEST BET - #10 - Allegretta (NEXT BEST)
I think that the O’dea/Hoystead trained Allegretta looks one of the better betting spots on the program and am keen on her at a nice price. She produced a couple end of prep runs before being sent back for a spell but before those she ran a very nice second placing down the Flemington straight to fend some horses off that have lengths on these and then was sold to this stable from Peter Moody. She’s very good with fresh legs, has been trialling super for her return and the booking of Thompson signals intent. If she shows up she has lengths on these in my opinion.

THE DANGER - #5 - Field Wiri 
The key threat in this race is the Freedman camp’s Field Wiri who hasn’t put in a bad effort in her two runs back from a spell. She bolted in at Newcastle two back for a soft kill when lengths in front of them and that wasn’t much of a surprise before racing behind Inasec at Doomben last time out where she overcame being against the race shape to beat all but Inasec and the placegetters in a very tough run. She steps back out to the 1200m on a bigger track which all looks ideal and she will look the winner a long way here.

VALUE BET - #2 - Xtra Gear 
Xtra Gear can hit back hard here and should have plenty to offer third up. He resumed a winner at Aquis Beaudesert two back when leading and finding plenty under pressure for a soft kill before racing last time out at Rosehill where he missed the start, recovered and found the lead but was caught wide and all that work told when finishing down the track. He will be a lot fitter for that run now and should still have a solid amount of upside third up. He gets nicely weighted and should be strong in the run.
