Saturday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm Racecourse 12/08/23

Racing up North is absolutely firing this Saturday with a big support card for the huge racing at Moonee Valley with nine races set for Eagle Farm being contested in mixed grades with up to BM90 races being contested on the day with just under $800k prize money spread across the card and I think there are some astutely placed runners for the top Queensland stables who are in for big preps with Spring racing on the horizon and I am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below for a solid card of Eagle Farm racing!

#4 - Ashgrove- $3.00

#1 - Be Water My Friend - $9.50

BEST BET - #4 - Ashgrove
Cheeky little race with a few key chances but I do think that Ashgrove is the leading contender here and the quote of around $3.00 is fair and good enough for me to be in his corner. He’s third up now and looks set to peak since racing at the Mile at Doomben just under three weeks ago where he seemingly had every chance with a positive ride from Jimmy Orman but just didn’t have the fitness right at the end to close that out. He drops back 100m which should be no issue at all and now, hard fit, will be ready to towel these.

THE DANGER - #12 - Enterprise Mia
Enterprise Mia looks set to peak here third up and I think that she is a very good thing going for the O’Dea and Hoystead camp. He resumed at the Sunshine Coast where the market said he would need the run off of a 20 week spell and he did when finishing down the track. He stepped out three weeks between runs last time out in a big field at Doomben where he crossed early from a wide gate and led to home to only be run down in the last 100m. He will be much sharper and fitter for that run and can definitely win this third up now. Top chance.

VALUE BET  - #11 - Gaius (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Gaius looks like as honest a chance as any and being at around $13.00 at the time of writing presents as a really good betting spot here. He has finished close second placings in both of his last two runs where I think a win in either of them would have seen him be around a $5.00 pop here but both of the runs have been full of merit and the form reads well, particularly his close second placing to Release The Beans last time out and without a clear class horse in this race he can win.

BEST BET - #3 - Ned’s Gully (BEST BET) 
Ned’s Gully has the highest overall rating differential to the rest of the field out of any field at this meeting and now looks set to make his Eagle Farm debut a winning one. He resumed at Doomben in a midweek meeting over the 1110m where he clocked an impressive win from on the speed there and looked strong through the line so I think that out to 1200m looks ideal if not even onto the 1400m later on and is only second up now. Confident he wins this if he shows up.

THE DANGER - #5 - Jemeldi 
Jemeldi is a very good horse for the Tyrell / Button stable who keeps getting close to winning and either encountering issues in the run or bumping into smart horses and he now takes the quick back up which I think he will be suited to as well as going back out to this distance. Last time out he was fifth in the run until starting a big run on the straight to only be claimed very late, clocking some nice splits and looking like he has hit his peak form behind Dalavin. Clear intent by the stable if he is turning around quickly now and I think Wilson Taylor should give him every chance.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Safework
The query is the drop back in distance for Safework who ran at this course over the 1400m two weeks ago where he was forced to settle at the rear of the field and wasn’t a winning threat but the way he made ground late in the piece was very impressive behind Canadian Dancer, who is a class animal herself. He takes a huge step down in competition now for this assignment, is hard fit and running well. Definite overs IMO.

BEST BET - #3 - Shot Of Whiskey (NEXT BEST) 
I’m going to have to stick with the short priced favourite for the O’Dea and Hoystead camp in Shot Of Whiskey who is resuming as a three year old here after just the two runs as in his 2YO season where he debuted at the Sunshine Coast over this distance and thrashed a nothing field before drawing a suck gate in the 2YO Jewel and can be forgiven for not coming on there. His trial earlier this week was awesome and he draws a soft low barrier. He just needs to show up to win this IMO.

THE DANGER - #1 - Miss Coota
Miss Coota, I reckon, is in for a big prep for Chris Munce and is resuming here today and doesn’t take many to get going. She hasn’t raced since the Magic Million where they did things too fast up front and she faded down the track behind Skirt The Law. Her trial saw her move along quite nicely even though she wasn’t asked for much effort and this is her ideal distance range. If Shot Of Whiskey isn’t his sharpest then she will be right there to take this out. 

VALUE BET - #2 - Top Fun
Top Fun is a horse I have lots of time for and am a big fan of his run style and he looks to have come back in top order for the Sears camp. He resumed off of an 18 week spell at Gatton over the 860m where she set two wide and kept improving through the line and just kept on coming from out wide to win easily there. He looks well placed still fresh, with upside to come and staying at a short distance and gets a big 3kg claim from Molloy so will be in with no weight on his back and this race isn’t overly strong.
