Saturday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm Racecourse 16/03/24

Racing comes back to Eagle Farm this Saturday as a nice support card for the huge Group 1 races that take place in Sydney and Melbourne this weekend and there are some very sharp looking Queenslanders stepping out. I have run through all of them below and picked out my best betting spots so follow me as I run through the card!

BEST BET - #9 - Damo Dayz (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
First very good betting spot at Eagle Farm comes early with Tony Gollan’s Damo Dayz who returns to this course where he is undefeated in two runs here and this time in has had a couple runs at Doomben when not getting any luck in either. He should relish the step out to this trip and he maps to get every chance in this run. Hard fit as well and loves the course, the one to beat for me.

THE DANGER - #5 - Naval Trader
Market is backing Naval Trader with a bit of confidence for the O’Dea / Hoystead camp after he ran two weeks ago at this course over the 1400m where he saved ground along the inside and looked like he was revving up to win in the straight but he just lacked the dash to win when still running well into third then. He’s hard fit now and been tuned up for something like this

VALUE BET  - #3 - Tip Of The Spear
Tip Of The Spea is a horse I feel like I keep missing for Matty Dunn. To be fair to him he hasn’t had the best of luck since resuming over the 1350m at Doomben where he was posted wide throughout the run and tried hard from up on the speed but was just unable to go on with them late. He will take a stack of improvement off that run and maps for a better chance here.

BEST BET - #1 - Rainbow Connection (NEXT BEST)
Quite like the look of Rainbow Connection for Matty Dunn. This horse comes back here after winning three back and placing close runner up in his past two with the most recent run being at Grafton where he was ridden along the back of the field before working into the race in the second half and then chasing very hard late to end up second in a big field. He looks to be going very well off the back of that effort and only has to hold form to be competitive here. Well placed with Shinn aboard as well.

THE DANGER - #5 - Brentwood
Brentwood hasn’t really given us a reason to knock him this prep for Tony Gollan. He comes into this after last stepping out at Doomben three weeks ago where he was running hard up top throughout the race and tried to hold them at bay in the straight but just found one better in a smart horse in Boom Torque. He needs to see out the trip here which is an unknown but if he does he is more than up to his competition here.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Solar Apex
Solar Apex should be approaching his peak third up here for Jack Bruce. He narrowly missed out on taking a win fresh at Doomben and then stepped out last time at the Sunshine Coast where he was ridden to vigorously on the speed and he just faded late. I assume they’ll change the tactics back now and he can hit hard here at a nice price

BEST BET - #2 - Press Link (BEST BET) 
Beware the undefeated horse. Press Link has kicked off his career with back to back wins for Rob Heathcote and comes here after running at Doomben over the 1110m when coming off a 16 week break and sitting just off the speed before finding a gap in the straight and blitzing them to the line. He now goes out in trip, will only be improved second up and I think will be tough to beat.

THE DANGER - #1 - Spin Doctor 
I think the market is struggling to find horses to take on the favourite with right now which puts Spin Doctor at very big odds for this assignment. He goes very well with fresh legs for the O’Dea and Hoystead camp and has a good record at this course. In two fresh runs he has a win and close placing and his recent Daegon trial was more than good enough to see him competitive here. Rates highly and I think goes well.

VALUE BET - #5 - Tellez
Tellez looks competitive here for Waller. He brings the Sydney form here albeit not really being competitive in Sydney in his runs there but he was running in very strong races and I think that coming here with runs behind Gold Revolver at Rosehill and with the fitness he has right now he has to be respected. Stable rarely gets it wrong when sending runners up north as well.
