Saturday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm Racecourse 16/09/23

Racing returns to Eagle Farm this Saturday for Tatterstall’s Members Cup Day as the big racing in VIC and NSW is supported by a solid nine race card up North that is highlighted by the Group Three Eureka Stud Tattersall's Members Cup, run over 1400m in Open conditions. There are some very progressive horses making their way up North for the feature and meeting overall and I am keen to jump into things so follow me below!

BEST BET - #2 - Smokin’ Toff (BEST BET)
Smokin’ Toff looks like she's in for big things under the O’Dea / Hoystead camp and moving up North. She debuted for the stable a couple weeks ago over the 1350m at Doomben where she clocked a dominant win after letting them get a ways in front and then clocking some of the best late splits of the day to win well. That was first up and her first run in Queensland so I think she will have plenty more to offer here and the price is good enough for me.

THE DANGER - #11 - Simply Refuse
It’s hard to ignore Simply Refuse for Jack Bruce. She has kicked off the career with back to back wins. Both of the wins have come at the Sunshine Coast and she has kicked powerfully through the line in each. She does strike a proper contest now with some quality in this field but all you can do is win and after this race we should have a better idea of her ability.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Chickerartie
Have to respect the fact that Stephen Lee had a bunch of horses nominated for this race but has landed on the sole representative in Chickerartie and I understand why. She’s won her past two starts on the bounce with the last being a dominant effort at Ipswich where she did things tough out wide and up top but still found plenty in the straight to claim that race. She strikes her hardest test to date but maps well for it and I think she likely goes well here.

BEST BET - #3 - Show Me Mercy
Show Me Mercy looks like she will be tough to beat for the Kendrick stable here after only having the two career starts but winning both and winning both well. She came off a long 39 week spell at the Sunshine Coast as a very short favourite and absolutely spanked them by lengths. She gets in super light after the claim from Wheeler, draws a good gate and whilst she is short again and gets a good test here, I think she measures up.

THE DANGER - #10 - Venturer (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Venturer is a smart horse for Tony Gollan who looks to be working towards a win and isn’t far away from another. She debuted over this trip at the Sunny Coast when drawn off the track but overcame that draw to win extremely sharply. Gollan is obviously backing her with a bit of confidence to bring her into town now and can’t knock any decisions he makes, especially in his hometown, so watch what the market does with her.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Borelli
It’s hard to knock the winning form of Borelli for the Schweida stable and that is all he has done in his lone career start when debuting a few weeks back at the Sunshine Coast, finding the front and maintaining a hot speed there to win ever so well. His splits read well for this, gets a nice claim from Wheeler and from the draw he should be sharp as anything here.

BEST BET - #3 - Hard To Say (NEXT BEST) 
Hard To Say is one of my favourite sprinters in the North and it has been great to see him return to racing in a very sharp way for the Deamer stable. He’s picked up two wins on the bounce this prep with the first being an impressive win down in Sydney before coming back up to Doomben just shy of a month ago where he found the lead and wouldn’t let anything get close to him. He’ll be hard fit now third up and shapes up very well here, happy to have something on even if he’s a bit short.

THE DANGER - #8 - Nashira
No knock on Nashira for the O’Dea / Hoystead camp who looks to be at something of her peak here third up now. She’s had two runs back from a 20 week spell and really clicked up in her last start when stepping  out over this track and trip and impressively belting them from on the speed. That made it her second win over this track and trip in four goes and rarely puts a foot wrong here. She draws a decent gate and Benny Thompson will give her every chance.

VALUE BET - #1 - Osamu
Osamu is the class of this field. It's just a matter of how sharp he will be on resumption here. He does go well with fresh legs and has been trialling pretty well for his return but just not totally sure how much intent there is first up. He’s having his first run for Tony Gollan and we often see big improvement with tried runners coming over to the stable. He gets a key claim from Graham here so gets in nicely weighted and if there’s anyu market push for him near the race I would be respecting it.
