Saturday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm Racecourse 17/02/24

Racing returns to Eagle Farm with ten races to be run and won at the course and we are looking to kick the Group 1 races season off in style as I have run through the ten race card and picked out my best betting spots. There are some high level contests on the card and I have picked out my best betting spots across them so follow me below.

#1 - Ain’t He Grand (BEST BET) - $3.20
#4 - Fleur De Monde - $3.40

#3 - Ella Te Ama - $3.90

BEST BET - #1 - Ain’t He Grand (BEST BET)
Ain’t He Grand has to rate as the leading contender for Tony Gollan here after racing a couple weeks ago here where he was held up for a fair bit of the run but when he did get clear air he found the split and jetted away for a close second place to another smart one in Uncommon Valour. He should get clear air here in the smaller field and be powering away late from them again.

THE DANGER - #4 - Fleur De Monde
Fleur De Monde is going very well for Waller and when he sends horses up north they always have to be respected. She ran a fortnight ago at this track and trip when she sat outside the leader and still gave a kick in the straight but just couldn’t get one over Koruto. She’s flying though and shapes up well here.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Mascaret
I thought that Mascaret’s effort two runs back at Rosehill was very sharp before she stepping out here where she trucked along the speed but just didn’t have anything left for them late when finishing down the track behind Koruto. She’s run very well in some stronger company than this which would see her win a race like this if she brought the same effort and coming from the Waller camp she will have been sharpened up for this.

BEST BET - #5 - Black On Beauty (NEXT BEST)
I am pretty bullish on a lot of the runners that Tony Gollan sends forth for this meeting and Black On Beauty is no exception after resuming at this track and trip a couple weeks back when sitting on the speed and just not being able to finish the race off when her condition gave way late. She gets back on top of the ground here, fitter and back to Mares grade, surely wins.

THE DANGER - #1 - Bubba’s Bay
Bubba’s Bay is a horse I always seem to miss for Kris Lees but she seems very wound up for a win now and I think it would be foolish to ignore her here. She last ran at Canterbury a couple weeks back when running home well into third place from not the easiest of spots. She historically has gone very well at this track and trip and gets the gun draw. Should be strong here.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Sabalenka
Sabalenka is a sharp horse for Brian Smith that ran fourth at Doomben about two months ago before coming off a pretty solid break from racing at this track a fortnight ago and she relished the break when coming from just behind the speed to drive very hard at the field late and win well. She will have plenty of upside off the back of that effort and has to be given a look here.

BEST BET - #8 - Castillian
Castillian really should have picked up a win by now. He should have won two back when forced wide without cover throughout the run before stepping out at Randwick last time and looking the winner a long way but just not having the strongest kick late. He’s a hard horse to catch and I often am on the wrong side of him but I really do think he should be winning an assignment like this, scary to put money on though.

THE DANGER - #16 - Petersham
Petersham changed hands from Waterhouse and Bott to Tony Gollan before coming back to racing off of an 11 week spell and running home well into fourth place in his debut Queensland outing before again stepping out at Doomben a couple weeks ago and clicking up well after giving too much away at the start to then run home well into third. Hard fit third up he can win now.

VALUE BET - #9 - Schmoozer 
Schmoozer is a sharp looking horse for Steve Tregea that won two back at Ipswich in a dominant effort before stepping out at this track and trip two weeks ago when he was very strong to the line behind Bettcha The Crown despite being deep in the run initially. He steps back in grade now for this assignment and with the 1400m run out the way he should be strong here.
