Saturday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm Racecourse 21/10/23

Racing returns to Eagle Farm for a great support card for the Group 1 races that we see taking place in VIC and I am keen for this card where I think there are some very solid betting spots. I have run through all the racing and picked three races that I think have some particularly smart horses going around so follow me below as I outline the days racing at Eagle Farm!

BEST BET - #1 - Bonny Ezra (BEST BET)
Big fan of Bonny Ezra for Chris Waller and the booking of Jimmy Orman only adds to my confidence here. He comes back from the 2400m when having last stepped out in the Queensland Cup a couple weeks ago where he just couldn’t close the gap when running on strongly. This is obviously a far easier contest now and I think that at the price, it’s generous, he should have something on these.

THE DANGER - #6 - Red Wave
Red Wave has a great record at this track and trip and I think that he should be prominent to some degree here. He ran two weeks ago where he was given too much heat throughout the run and he failed to have a kick in the straight there but ran a very good race in the Toowoomba Cup one run prior and I think that with his record here he shapes up well.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Baanone 
Baanone looks to relish getting out on this trip after running in the Toowoomba cup two runs back where he flashed home in a big run and then went down 200m when he last stepped out two weeks ago to run on very strongly again late. He has a very good record at this track / trip and I think he has to be given an element of respect here.

BEST BET - #6 - Portorosa (NEXT BEST) 
Portorosa is a smart horse for Annabel Neasham and now that he has got the win under the belt I do think that she can go on with it now. She won over the mile with a certain level of cockiness last time out and the NSW form reads very well and I think she’s going to be tough to beat here.

THE DANGER - #2 - Encubierto
Encubierto hasn’t really put a foot wrong in his three start career for Shaun Dwyer comes to town now ready to hit things hard off the back of shedding the maiden tag over the 1400m at the Sunshine Coast. He controlled the race there and gave a kick there to hold them at bay. He’s going the right way and I think going out to the mile will be great for him.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Red Defcon
Red Defcon should relish getting out in trip after going very close in her two runs this far this prep. She ran very well two starts ago in the Toowoomba Guinness before being a bit flat when last racing here two weeks ago before picking up late to be strong through the line. I think she will be much more suited back out to the mile now and with fitness on her side.

BEST BET - #4 - Shibili 
Shibili looks like a smart animal for Chris Waller who i think rates well here. He’s had three weeks since he last stepped out over this track and trip where he was trucking along behind the pace and then edged out of the field late to draw clear of them and win very sharply. His record out to this distance range is good in the past and I think he will be tough to beat here.

THE DANGER - #6 - Quality Time (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Quality Time is another Waller trained horse who I think should go well here after resuming over the 1400m two weeks back where he made heaps of late ground to clock great splits and not be beaten by much. He is a second up winner in the past and with upside, given the way he returned to racing, I don’t see him running poorly here.

VALUE BET - #1 - Great House
Not sure that Great House is deep enough into his prep to win this but the way he resumed to racing when stepping out over the 1400m here two weeks back was impressive enough that this race isn’t totally out of reach. He generally does his best work over the 2000m but he will be coming on strongly late here and should have plenty to offer in the closing 200-300m of this race.

For my multi of the day I have stuck with my top selections and combined them as I believe there are some stand out types in a bunch of these races. I have also put a fair bit of weight onto the jockeys that have been booked, those with experience at a tighter track like Eagle Farm and those that are already fit/in form.
