Saturday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm Racecourse 23/12/23

Racing comes back to Eagle Farm for the Magic Millions B.J. McLachlan Stakes, a $300k race over the 1200m that is supported by two more listed races. The whole day shapes up to be a $1.3 million card and I have run through and picked out my best betting spots so follow me below as I outline them!

BEST BET - #3 - Highbar (BEST BET)
Highbar comes into this first up but I think ready to go over here first up. He had a two run prep to kick his career off last time out and won both of them with the most recent being over the 1200m where he only just fell in. I think that he definitely is suited sprinting however and can roll the favourite here.

THE DANGER - #6 - Bossed Up
You still gotta respect the favourite coming into this for Tony Gollan and he has the fitness edge here after resuming over the 1000m at the Sunshine Coast where his class got him home as he was strong to the line and clocked some very sharp late splits in the process. He should be the leading runner here.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Mishani Gangster
Never count out one of Les Ross’s runners at the farm and Mishani Gangster has already put together two wins and two placings in his six start career, rates a bit above most of these and gets a key 3kg claim to offset top weight here. He hasn’t raced for thirty weeks and comes in off the back of two sharp trials where he placed second before winning last time out at Beaudesert, well placed here and over the odds imo.

BEST BET - #7 - Tazaral (NEXT BEST)
Tazaral is a horse I always seem to catch and I don’t want to jinx it by saying that but damn he looks set up well to win again here. He resumed off a short let up when flying home from near last on the turn to be beaten 1.5L by Phearson who is a very smart horse. He will take a stack of improvement off of that and now gets out to a more suitable trip as well, I hope he wins but will have to get past a smart one.

THE DANGER - #1 - Acquitted
Acquitted is a deserving favourite here for Kris Lees and he has given no reason to jump off him after stepping out three weeks back in the Tails at Doomben where he sat behind the speed before angling into the clear and flying home to smash them and win well. He might not have too much upside off the back of that and takes on more weight here but should be strong regardless.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Love Tap
Love Tap’s form ties into Acquitted and he rates highly in this field. He comes out of the Mile race that Acquitted won a couple weeks ago at Doomben where he overcame a very unfavourable run to chase very hard from near the rear of the field to finish only a length and a half off of Acquitted when third. He now shapes up for this assignment hard fit, in form and with a better run he can win

BEST BET - #1 - Spacewalk
Has to be Spacewalk here for Godolphin. He hasn’t raced for a little while but the last time he stepped out was on Oaks Day in the Century where he was only just beaten by Najem Suhail. He’s had a very sharp trial between runs at the Hawkesbury and I think that now getting onto a track with a longer straight he should be able to have what it takes to win well.

THE DANGER - #9 - Deepour
Deepour has to be given another chance off the back of his run in the George Moore where it was evident he was against the shape of the race and didn’t really have the chance to come on. He now comes back to a track he goes so well at, is hard fit and I think that the stable wouldn’t have placed him in this if they were confident he could go better than he has been. My guess is he has been tuned up for this.

VALUE BET - #7 - Ef Troop (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Ef Troop is going very well for Tony Gollan and now comes into this third up and hard fit ready to fire and get the win on board. He most recently stepped out over the 1000m a couple weeks back when near last in the run and storming home to place only two lengths off All That Pizzazz. He should appreciate getting out another couple hundred meters in trip for this and the softer draw will only aid his chances.
