Saturday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm Racecourse 27/05/23

It’s Kingsford Smith Cup Day at Eagle Farm and we have an outstandingly high level card with seven group level races in total on the card. The card’s feature race is the Eva Air Kingsford Smith Cup, a WFA sprint over the 1300m for a share of $1 million prize money. The card is supported by the G1 Ladbrokes Queensland Derby, a 2400m staying race as well as a handful of Group two and three races. It should make for an exciting and super competitive race day so follow me below as I outline my best betting spots for Eagle Farm racing on Saturday!

Eagle Farm R3 - Living Turf Premier's Cup (2400m)

Selections:
#3 - Serpentine (BEST BET) - $4.00
#4 - Kalapour  - $3.70
#9 - Dune Forty Five - $8.00
#5 - Kukeracha  - $5.50

BEST BET - #3 - Serpentine (BEST BET)
Interesting little G3 staying contest we have here early on the card and I am quite keen on Serpentine who resumed a few weeks ago for the Gai / Bott stable and he lead throughout over the 2200m at this track and looked completely beat late but found another gear to win under pressure. He will be much fitter and improve sharply off the back of that and should find the lead easily again. Keen on his prospects.

THE DANGER - #4 - Kalapour
Kris Lees is in hot form this season and he puts forward Kalapour for this race after a very narrow second placing to the aforementioned Serpentine two runs ago and then raced at the 2000m in the Chairmans a fortnight ago and scored nicely under Tim Clark. His overseas form at 2400m+ is good and although he hasn’t raced at these distances since coming to Aus, I think he will go well.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Dune Forty Five
The Rob Heathcoate trained Dune Forty Five has been having a very good campaign thus far, picking up back to back wins from first and second up before contesting some hot races and the most recent of which was the Chairman’s that Kalapour took out when Dune Forty Five stuck on all run and looked the winner to only just go down to Kalapour very late in the piece after doing much more work than Kalapour did. He rates very well off the back of it and as long as he is still holding form he should be competitive.

Eagle Farm R5 - JMullins Fred Best Classic (1400m)

Selections:
#8 - Hawaii Five Oh (NEXT BEST)  - $3.60
#2 - Yellow Brick - $2.80
#4 - Zou Tiger - $4.60
#14 - Seven Veils - $20.00

BEST BET - #8 - Hawaii Five Oh (NEXT BEST)
Wow this is going to be a good race, one of the ones i am most excited for across the whole race day. But I have landed with Hawaii Five Oh over the favourite who just won the Hawkesbury Guineas with a certain level of composure that would suggest he will be onto bigger things. He absolutely blitzed the clock in that run as well. I think the stable is serious about him at G1 level and a win here would mean he gets a chance in The Stradbroke, top top chance.

THE DANGER - #2 - Yellow Brick
The danger here is obviously Yellow Brick who himself is a mighty progressive horse who resumed in the Gold Coast Guineas and it wasn’t an overly strong edition of the Guineas form wise but the way he won and the time he won, doing all of this first up as well, damn he’s going to be a good thing for the Sears stable. He’ll only improve off that win and goes onto a bigger track and out to 1400m. If he wins this he might even go into the Stradbroke as favourite.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Zou Tiger
Not an awful lot of value with this value pick but if you’re playing your exotics then I think Zou Tiger is the way to go. The John O’Shea trained three year old is returning from a short let up with this race in mind. He hasn’t run since the Arrowfield at Randwick where lost a plate, suffered an abrasion and still wasn’t disgraced behind Aft Cabin. He looks good to go based on the trial work and I think this is his best distance range, also goes back on top of the ground now off the back of that bog down Arrowfield. Dangerous as ever.

Eagle Farm R8 - SILK LASER CLINIC HANDICAP (1820m)

Selections:
#11 - Think About It - $6.00
#4 - Rothfire - $6.50
#19 - Antino (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $23.00
#1 - Eduardo - $12.00

BEST BET - #11 - Think About It
A horse I have plenty of time for and who it is hard to not pick in this field is the Joseph pride trained Think About It who comes into this off the back of just the first up run but what a run it was in the Takeover Target at Gosford where he carried top weight and just had so much class on them, shifting out in the straight and powering over them. He’s obviously got a proper test on his hands now but I think he is more than up to it.

THE DANGER - #4 - Rothfire
The Rob Heathcoate five year old Rothfire is a proven group performer who just keeps going. He hasn’t raced since the Victory Stakes at this track about a month ago where he sat on the speed and just had more in the tank than all of them, scoring well under Nash. He’s always around the mark at this level but has only recorded one Group 1 win and I think he gets an honest chance to record another now.

VALUE BET - #19 - Antino (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
The Tony Gollan trained Antino is easily the most interesting runner in this race. He’s won six of his seven career starts and has obviously been contesting in much weaker grade than this but they’ve hardly been contests, more like displays. Four of those wins have been at this track, he looks to eat up 1300m or longer and gets Jimmy Orman on for the ride. He draws barrier three and with Antino’s run style they should be right up on the speed and prominent late. I think he has a genuine chance to win this.

Best Promotions for Eagle Farm Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
