Saturday Racing Tips - Flemington Racecourse 03/06/23

Racing returns to Flemington for another stacked racing card and there are nine races on the card with the Herald Sun/ Run For The Kids being the feature of the day, a 1400m WFA race for a share of $150k prize money. There’s a total of $1.2m prize money across the card and between the open and high Benchmark grade races I think we should see a fine day of racing at Flemington tomorrow. Follow me below as I outline my best betting spots on the card!

BEST BET - #3 - Party For One (BEST BET)

Party For One has really come to this preparation off the back of her last run. She has had three run for the Price / Kent stable and her most recent saw her break through for a win at this track and trip under Blake Shinn who got her into a decent spot but it was really her class that saw her power through the field and win dominantly. I think with the added fitness and confidence from that she will be very hard to beat. 

THE DANGER - #4 - Fortunate Kiss
Fortunate Kiss has been screaming out for a win and gets his chance here for Daniel Bowman. The four year old has had three runs this time in since resuming off a 19 week spell and in his last two he has gone so close, being deep in the run at Terang in the Heavy going where he powered home from the back to end up second and then went out to this distance last time out at this course and raced between runners from back in the field to end up second again but really should have won that with any more breathing room. Think he can easily go one better now. 

VALUE BET  - #1 - Mac N Cheese

Mac N Cheese is resuming here off of a 25 week spell and generally doesn’t take too many to get going but often needs a run as she does her best work over further distances than this. However, she has lengths on this field at her best and her class could see her run a good race first up. She has scored in one from three and been a close second in another first up, those were over 1200m and 1100m respectively and I honestly think she will look better at the 1400m fresh. Top chance.

BEST BET - #1 - First Immortal (NEXT BEST)
First Immortal has been going for a little bit now but once he hit form he has been holding it outstandingly and with 60kg on his back he should still be able to be very prominent. He ran at this track and trip a fortnight ago and was very good from on the speed to still have something more from them on the home straight and scored there to make it two wins from three runs. If he holds form coming into this I think he will be extremely hard to beat here. 

THE DANGER - #2 - Oceans Above
I think that Oceans Above has been given a very good set up for this race for Simon Zahra and I think he will relish getting out to 2000m after putting together a handy little record in his five run campaign so far. His first few runs came over the 1400m and he picked up a win before going out to 1600m and clocking another great win last time out where he got one over what looks like a very progressive horse in Simeon. He has further upside still to come off the back of that and should run very well here.

VALUE BET  - #7 - King's Crossing
King’s Crossing looks like a very good thing going for Danny O’Brien and has been exceptional in his four runs this campaign. He kicked things off with a big first up win at Geelong over the 1726m and has gone on with it to place close seconds in two of his next three runs, all coming at around the 2000m distance range. He fought very hard last time out over this track / trip to power into the placings, overcoming a suck run there and I think that will hold him in good steed for this. Meech on and she is the right type of jockey for King’s Crossing’s run style.

BEST BET - #6 - It’sourtime
Pretty Keen on It’sourtime who hasn’t been the easiest horse to follow but when gets it right he goes very very well. He raced last time out in the Straight Six at this track over the 1200m where Jye Mcneil gave him an outstanding ride as It’sourtime powered over the line with seemingly much more to offer. Off the back of that the rise to 1400m looks ideal and he should be able to settle in a handy spot near the speed. It will take a good thing to beat him here.

THE DANGER - #7 - Jimmy The Bear  
I do think Jimmy The Bear is going a lot better than it reads on paper and should be very ready for this second up now for Patrick Payne. He is two from two second up and made his return to racing three weeks ago at this track over the 1200m and came from out wide in a very brave run on the straight but was outkicked by his rivals who were all fitter / further into their preps. He should make big improvements off the back of that now second up and can keep his undefeated record intact here.

VALUE BET - #1 - King Magnus (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
King Magnus presents very well here third up for the flying Griffiths/ De Kock stable. He resumed off of a long spell at Sandown over this distance at the end of April and was far from disgraced, doing it tough out wide and chasing hard all run to end up midfield. He then came to this track / trip where he set deep and timed the run to perfection when motoring over the top of them late to win smartly but narrowly. He will only improve third up now off the back of that and this distance range is where he does his best work. Top chance.

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse. As a result, horses drawn on the inside have a better chance of performing well compared to those drawn towards the outside.
