Saturday Racing Tips - Flemington Racecourse 07/10/23

Wow I can’t believe that Turnbull Stakes day has arrived already at Flemington and we have pretty much an entire card of listed racing with four group two’s, two group three’s, two listed races and of course the feature race of the day, the TAB Turnbull Stakes, run over 2000m for a share of $750k prize money. I have run through the biggest races of the day and picked out a bunch of my top betting spots so follow me below for a great Saturday of Group 1 races.

BEST BET - #2 - Legacies (NEXT BEST)
Very good horse here for the Moody stable in Legacies who deserves another chance here. She ran in the Exford three weeks ago here in The Exford over the 1400m where she looked to have every chance to come on but just didn’t have a kick in the straight for them. She now comes back to her own sex and out to 1600m, set to leave a mark.

THE DANGER - #13 - Poifect
Poifect is sure to make this a close race getting out to the distance he loves the most. The Hayes trained filly resumed a couple weeks ago and was one paced in the straight but still looked to be moving very nicely and that was more than acceptable of a run given her first up condition. She’s a second up winner, with plenty of upside to come out to 1600m and should only go well here.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Zardozi
Zardozi looks like a good rep for Godolphin, particularly given that he comes into this on the quick back up so there is clearly intent. He raced at Sandown last Sunday where there was very little intent combined with the fact that she really didn’t get a chance to come into the race. She maps to do no work from the low draw, good jockey booking and her best is plenty to be competitive here.

BEST BET - #3 - Princess Grace
Princess Grace looks like she will be awfully tough to beat here coming off the back of a the Makybe Diva where she was only outsprinted in the final 200m to Mr Brightside, Alligator Blood and Osipenko in one of the fastest run editions of the race. She comes back to Mares Grade, is a horse we have been on her entire prep thus far and I am keen for her to finally get the job done. Pity she is so short though.

THE DANGER - #10 - Life Lessons
I am a big fan of a lot of the horses that the Moody / Coleman combination has put through for this race day and Life Lessons is no exception. She seems to have returned in very good order this prep as well after nearly having won at Caulfield fresh and then stepping out here where she went down only to Western Australian Star Amelia’s Jewel. She will give Princess Grace a run for her money I am confident.

VALUE BET  - #13 - Ausbred Flirt (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
If you have been following me for some time you know how much of a fan of the Ausbred’s I am for Brad Widdup and I think that whilst Ausbred Flirt might not possess the same talent as the aforementioned two she can definitely be an exotics spot here at a nice price. She comes off the back of a resumption run over this distance at Randwick where she got a great steer under Schiller for a big win. Will have plenty more to offer here only second up.

BEST BET - #1 - Romantic Warrior (BEST BET) 
We briefly covered Romantic Warrior’s prospects in our news articles earlier this week but world class trainer Danny Shum brought him over from Hong Kong and a key confidence boosting point is how he has frequently beaten some of the best Japanese gallopers who have often dominated on local shores. He will likely be looking towards our even bigger races to come but class alone should carry him lengths here.

THE DANGER - #2 - Gold Trip
Gold Trip is on his way towards the Caulfield but this does not look out of reach on the way there. He resumed at the Valley and took on a big weight of 62kg over this distance where he got really warm late and was thundering home behind Young Werther. I thought he would step out before this but has been kept for this race and now looks very well placed coming into this and I think is sharply over the odds.

VALUE BET - #15 - Right You Are 
Right You Are is a track and distance specialist here, never having been out of the placings or having won at this track and winning two from four at this distance. He’s had a few runs back from a spell and now looks to be approaching something of his peak third up. His last run came in the Underwood at Caulfield where he came from four deep to chase hard and finish just outside the placegetters in a tough run and now looks set to have another bold showing and I think is well over the odds.

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse. As a result, horses drawn on the inside have a better chance of performing well compared to those drawn towards the outside.
