Saturday Racing Tips - Flemington Racecourse 13/01/24

An exciting ten race card with $1.4 million worth of prize money comes back to Flemington racecourse this Saturday for the Standish Hcp, a listed race over the 1200m in race eight and I think that it’s going to be a great card overall. I have run through the biggest races of the meeting and picked out what I think to be some nice spots so follow me below!

BEST BET - #5 - Zestiman (NEXT BEST)
Zestiman has to rate highly here on debut for the Hayes boys. He last jumped out a couple weeks ago and it was a very strong finish there when he looked to have plenty left in the tank finishing second. I don’t think that there’s as strong 2YO’s as we often see in these races and you have to respect the stable here.

THE DANGER - #3 - Ravenite
Smart looking horse in Ravenite for the Kennewell/Yeomans camp and this guy comes out of a bunch of sharp Cranbourne jumpouts with the last seeing him ridden with a lot of intent to win very nicely where he was moving well. The stable has been flying lately so don’t treat him lightly.

VALUE BET  - #1 - I’m Kenough
I’m Kenough is one of the few here who has some runs on board and we have seen that go very far in these races. He stepped out at The Valley last time out when really just not managing on the track conditions but the run prior at Caulfield was extremely sharp and he’s locally trained, can win now.

BEST BET - #7 - Arugamama
I think it’s quite hard to get away from Arugamama for the Gluyaas camp after the way that she put together three sharp wins on the bounce. Her most recent run came about a month ago where she did plenty wrong in the run and her class still saw her fly home. Tougher test here but confident she measures up.

THE DANGER - #4 - Herman Hesse
Herman Hesse has been working towards a win for the Maher and Eustace camp and I think hard fit now he’s a very good shot of recording it here. He last ran behind Regal Power about a month ago over the 2400m at Caulfield where he just didn’t have much for them late but I think coming back in trip now might actually be suitable, keen to see what happens.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Maserartie Bay (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Gotta think that there’s a reason for Maher and Eustace bringing Maserartie Bay back in trip here and this stable hardly ever gets it wrong with their staying horses and this guy comes here a month between runs since racing at Caulfield over the 2400m and struggling in the conditions. I think he will be much better back atop the ground and can hit back hard here.

BEST BET - #2 - Sghirripa (BEST BET) 
In think that Sghirripa is just such a good horse for the Oxlade boys coming out of the Christmas Stakes at Caulfield where he absolutely floored the field when shifting out in the straight and letting down with real puprose to win very well. I don’t think this is a particularly strong race relative to that and he’s clearly been revved up for this. Go well.

THE DANGER - #4 - Curran 
If you have been following this page for awhile you would know how much of a fan I am of Curran for the Proctor and Tolson camp even though he really loves to shoot himself in the foot. He closed off the race very well behind Sghirripa in the Christmas Stakes and he’s performed on the Straight historically so he should go well here.

VALUE BET - #5 - Crosshaven 
Crosshaven is a sick horse for the Hayes boys that can’t be ignored going into this. He doesn’t win out of turn but I think that his most recent run over the 1400m here was a lot better than it reads on paper. He was posted wide the whole trip and forced to go back from a wide gate early but even though he was never a winning threat he really got going late when powering home. Needs to be ridden closer for this but he should be able to down the straight.

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse.
