Saturday Racing Tips - Flemington Racecourse 18/02/23

Racing at Flemington continues into February to kick off what is going to be an awesome Spring in Victoria, with three group three’s and the feature group one on the card, the BLACK CAVIAR LIGHTNING sprint over the 1000m Flemington straight for a share of $1,000,000 prize. It’s going to be a great card with a bunch of exciting sprints and a few staying races.

BEST BET - #12 - Wishlor Lass (BEST BET) 
Wishlor Lass is undefeated in three careers starts and gets Kah on now. She smashed them on Australia day at Sandown and looked there to be run down but gave a strong kick to draw clear late and was just brilliant overall in that effort. She gets a good test now but she will power into the good spot on the speed and will be the one they have to catch.

THE DANGER - #11 - So You See
So You See does look tried but she is worth another shot here. She got too far back in the run last time out at Sandown behind Glory Daze and didn’t produce too much there to finish down the track. She wants it firmer than that and should get that here, the big track is definitely a positive and out to 1600m is a bonus as well. 

VALUE BET  - #2 - Lyrical Lad
I just love the P stokes trained Lyrical Lad, he’s produced some of the most beautiful runs I’ve seen in the last 12 months and comes into this third up after a break and should be peaking now. He showed a good turn of foot three weeks ago at Moonee Valley when powering home from the back but not able to close the gap on Rambler Rebel. Mott jumps back aboard now and even though they don’t draw too well he is a definitive winning chance.

BEST BET - #4 - Annavisto (NEXT BEST)
Annavisto is a mare that flies fresh. She looks ready to go here for the Price/Kent stable after a long spell in what looks like the stable’s effort to keep her fresh for a big Autumn. She trialled amazingly at the beginning of the week at Cranbourne and I think off the back of that it is safe to say she is ready to fire fresh again here on Saturday.

THE DANGER - #6 - Wrote To Arataki 
All you can do is win and that is exactly what Wrote To Arataki has been doing. The Williams trained Mare comes into this chasing a hat trick after an impressive win on new years day at this track and then resumed at the beginning of this month at Sandown when picking up another soft all the way win as an odds on favourite. The form around him is pretty good and he gets his chance against a tougher field now but deserves it and I think he has some class to him.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Vespertine
Vespertine is well within reach to pick up another win after being a bit unlucky in her last couple of runs. Last time out the run of the race was totally against her but she still worked to the line strongly behind Wrote To Arataki. She has super form at this track and if Begg can help her find the run she has the ability to beat these.

BEST BET - #4 - Bank Maur 
Bank Maur is a Richard Laming three year old that resumed in the Manfred three weeks ago and he just missed the win there to Jacquinot, who there is no query around given that run last weekend. I don’t think form can read much better than that and that first up run suggests that he has resumed to the races in fine order.

THE DANGER - #5 - Elliptical
I am interested to see what the stable can produce with Elliptical fresh. He has been away from the races since the Spring Championship where he looked to be an all the way winner but just didn’t have steam left when Shinn asked for more and went down to Sharp N Smart. He’s a blinkers horse and has them on now, if he’s left to his own devices he can run a cracker race here.

VALUE BET - #2 - Bello Beau (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Bello Beau is an Adam Trinder trained three year old who makes his Mainland debut here coming over from Tasmania where he has been absolutely belting them, winning six from 10 outings this campaign and doing them in fine style. The times read very well for this and I think that if Mccoull can cross on him early they can find the rail and give the rest of the field something to catch, which is a task they may not succeed in doing.
