Saturday Racing Tips - Geelong Racecourse 06/01/24

Racing returns to Geelong this Saturday for Black Pearl Stakes day and we have ten races on the program and a total of $1.3 million available on the card and the 1200m SEN Geelong Black Pearl Stakes as the listed feature of the day. I have run through what I think are my best betting spots of the program and thoroughly outlined them below so follow me as I outline the card for tomorrow’s racing at Geelong.

BEST BET - #6 - Trunk (NEXT BEST) 
The Geelong Diamond looks like a good kick off point for the well bred Trunk from the Waterhouse and Bott camp and I have been following him since his first trial where he moved along very nicely. Since then he has trialled again at Randwick where placed just behind Straight Charge who blasted a field on debut not long ago. No secret how the stable are with their debutants as well. Well placed.

THE DANGER - #4 - Stay Focused
Stay Focused appears to be a very talented debutant for the Stokes camp after trialling a few weeks ago at Cranbourne where he won well, moved like a strong horse and actually ran a bit of time. He should get a spot just behind the leaders from the draw and the market is certainly backing him with confidence.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Markdel
Another horse sired by Snitzel is the Freedman’s Markdel who makes his debut here after a very sharp trial a couple weeks ago at Cranbourne where he ran into fourth behind the aforementioned stay focused. The Freedman’s don’t screw around when it comes to their debutants and placing them so watch the market but expect a solid showing.

BEST BET - #7 - Carbonados (BEST BET)
Carbonados is making his Aus debut here and he looks like a very smart horse based off his racing debut at New Plymouth in New Zealand. He stepped out there in the wet when absolutely blasting a field then and now his two Aus jumpouts have both been very sharp, so sharp that this looks like a very soft way to get the ball rolling, think he smashes these.

THE DANGER - #2 - Gitalong
The Hawkes camp sends out one of their in form runners in Gitalong who last stepped out a fortnight back at The Valley and managed to maintain a hot speed when racing at the front and not giving anything else a chance to get in the race. He’s now chasing four wins in a row but given the way he is racing I think he can step up to this level of competition and still perform well.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Soar Beyond
Sorar Beyond is a very sharp horse for Danny O’Brien that rates well resuming here. He knocked off his maiden win on Kyneton Cup day when letting them get out in front and then spanking them to the line in a very smart effort. He will be doing the same here but if the tempo is hot he will be the strongest late here.

BEST BET - #4 - Bermadez
Bermadez looks like he will relish getting out in trip for Mike Moroney after running over the 1400m at Caulfield three weeks ago where he was forced back from a wide gate and let them get too far in front to make an impression but he clocked some of the best late splits of the day. I think he will be very tough to beat here now.

THE DANGER - #2 - Keats
Keats hasn’t put in a bad run this prep and comes here off the back of a close placing at Caulfield a couple weeks ago when he stepped out over this distance and crossed quickly from a wide gate and fought hard to the line when only going down to the exacta there. He rates highly coming into this hard fit now and can clock another win.

VALUE BET - #1 - Junipal (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
I have so much time for Junipal and he comes here after racing in the Lord Stakes on Boxing Day at Caulfield where he closed off the race one of the sharpest of the meeting when fourth to his stablemate Zennzella. He needs to settle a bit closer in the run but if he does he will be dangerous.
