Saturday Racing Tips - Kembla Grange Racecourse 25/11/23

The midweeks return to Kembla Grange and there’s a stacked ten race card with a bunch of sprints on the card and the lone staying race to kick off the card over the 2000m. There’s a total of $2.4 million in prize money available on the card and the feature of the day is the listed The Illawarra Mercury Gong, a $1 million race run over 1600m. It should make for an exciting day of racing, follow me below as I outline my best betting spots for Saturday’s racing at Kembla.

BEST BET - #5 - Zouatica (BEST BET)
Zouatica can come to Kembla and score well here on resumption to racing. He hasn’t been seen at the races since the beginning of June when he tried to lead but was posted just outside the leaders there and couldn’t overcome that tough run right at the end when just overrun late. He has trialled very well for his return and there has to be some level of intent here if he’s resuming in a tough 1400m race.

THE DANGER - #2 - Tribeca Star
There has to be some respect given to the favourite for Matty Dunn here. Tribeca Star comes off the back of a win a few weeks back at Rosehill in a Highway where he let them get out in front and smashed them to the line. The query is this distance but he likely handles it and the stable is flying.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Unrelenting
Unrelenting has the racing edge on a few of these having had two runs on the board and now coming into this approaching peak fitness third up. The last of which came a fortnight back where he sat just off the speed and was powering home in not the most economical of runs when running third to a smart horse. He can maintain a position closer to the front now hard fit and will be dangerous.

BEST BET - #1 - Cepheus (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Cepheus can hit back hard here and I don’t think Dunn would have placed him to run again if there wasn’t petrol left in the tank. He put together two sharp wins, the most recent of which being the Alan Brown before taking four weeks off and coming back to racing last time out in the Big Dance where he ran runner up to Attractable who had the perfect setup for that race. A1 form, hard fit, flying and surely can take this out.

THE DANGER - #3 - Osipenko
Osipenko is a classy horse for Chris Waller who clearly knows now that this horse is not a 2000m animal after not producing much in the Turnbull. He’s been freshened since then, comes back to the mile where he is proven and his recent trial with blinkers on at Rosehill was absolutely blasting. Top top chance.

VALUE BET  - #15 - Wicklow
I am willing to give Wicklow another look after absolutely bombing out in The Big Dance. He had returned amazingly prior to that however but he just did nothing in The Big Dance. I think that is just one poor run however and he can be forgiven, now, he comes into this fit, keen and ready to go. Over the odds IMO.

BEST BET - #8 - Insurrection (NEXT BEST) 
I am a big fan of both the horses that Baker sends to this race and I think there is serious intent here from the stable to take this race out but am just leaning slightly to Insurrection who resumed off of a 14 week break from racing a couple weeks back at Randwick where he encountered some trouble early but just worked through the run to overcome things there and kept finding the line well to finish just behind the placegetters. He’s a class horse, Lloyd sticks and he will only be improved now.

THE DANGER - #12 - Brudenell 
Brudenell is a very sharp 1000m horse for Kris Lees that can resume in a big way here and the market seems to be onto that. He didn’t put in a single poor run last prep and his recent Warwick Farm trial suggests he is going well enough to give this a shake. Market is giving him plenty of respect as well so watch closely.

VALUE BET - #3 - Malkovich
Malkovich is the other Baker stable rep in this race and this horse is the class of the field on his day and can resume here with a bang. He hasn’t been seen since early into the Spring when he didn’t do much fresh behind Sigh and was sent back for some work. His two trials have been good and there’s a level of intent this year that they didn’t have with him this time last year when placed in this race.
