Saturday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley Racecourse 21/01/23

Black type racing returns to the Valley for the third weekend in a row and the Queensland summer Carnival is nearing an end now and it looks like the Queenslanders are gonna finish things off in style. There is a total of nine races on the card and a total of $1,180,000 is available across the card. It should make for an exciting race day at the Valley, follow me below for some bets for the day.

BEST BET - #2 - Unflinching - (BEST BET)
Unflinching has come back to the races in great form, resuming with a close second to the smart and in form Inundation before going on to Sandown where he led and only just went down late to No Way Ever after battling all run. I think that Amy McLucas isn’t the best booking but she is good on front running types and that’s the key to him.

THE DANGER - #3 - Way To The Stars
Way to the Stars gets Blake Shinn on board which is a massive upgrade off the back of a soft all the way win at Doomben after a short spell. He ran a good time over similar going to what we can expect on Saturday and whilst he doesn’t get the gun run this time I expect him to have a prominent showing regardless.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Bifrost (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
If they go as hard up front as they map to and the Browne Stable are absolutely flying at the moment. Bifrost sat just off the speed at Stony Creek in bm64 grade before being given clear running and smashing them home for a dominant win. He will sit off good speed and be the top one late.

BEST BET - #4 - Running On Time (BEST BET) 
Running On Time has done nothing but win since making her Debut at the races. She made a great debut at Swan Hill and then went to Mornington where she led through the whole run and took on a lot of pressure but she ran well with it, showing a great turn of foot and being strong to the line. I think she measures up here against the tougher competition.

THE DANGER - #6 - Shuffle Dancer
Shuffle Dancer is the clear running favourite in this race. He has won or placed in all outings to date and continues to improve sharply in each run, looks to be hitting his best now and off the back of a close second at Flemington last time out over the 1400m, the extra 100m looks great and I can only take him on cause of the very short quote.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Proprietary 

Proprietary is worth giving a chance. The three year old races for Greg Eurell and won on debut over the 1200m at Mornington. He was very impressive on the straight there, looking smart and having good running style. He lands on the speed from the good gate here and the step up to 1500m looks natural.

BEST BET - #5 - Highland Jakk (NEXT BEST)
Highland Jakk comes into this three week between runs for the Hickmott stable, he raced over this distance hee last time out and Willow gave him a fantastic ride. I think that with a win in hand, the solid map and the step up to 2040m all are bonuses and I see him fighting out the finish. 

NEXT BEST - #10 - The Nephew
The Patrick Payne runner is two weeks between runs and is shooting for a win. Last time out he ran over the 1800m at Sandown in a sit and sprint where he was super solid, just not having the dash to catch the smart Riverplate. He has won races up to then 2200m so the step up to 2040m doesn’t look like an issue and the inside gate looks ideal for his running style.

VALUE BET - #1 - Arran Bay 
Arran Bay is an honest horse who is always around the mark. He comes into this on a quick week long back up after running second at Flemington over the mile distance on similar going to this and running a great time. He was a bit flat footed there but then kicked hard late and so I think second up from the spell and up in distance now looks ideal.

Mark Zahra goes on top for me here as he has been massively in form in the last few months and has been doing well at this track. He gets a pretty short but sweet booking of rides and I think that he is a top chance to go over on his early runners and wouldn’t be surprised to see him run some of his bigger odds runners in to the placings.

For My multi at the Valley I have chosen to prioritise runners that I have selected that have drawn well to place. This is because the track is quite tricky and the track bias does help the winners statistically quite a lot. I think that if it’s not too wet and the track doesn’t deteriorate over the day that we could see winners emerge primarily from inside draws.
