Saturday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley Racecourse 23/12/23

A $1.2 million card comes to Moonee Valley this Saturday and I have run through it and picked out my three best betting spots. There looks to be some very nice horses going around from Victoria and also outer state so follow me below as I run through the day’s racing at Moonee Valley.

BEST BET - #2 - Our Cracklin Rosie (NEXT BEST)
Our Cracklin Rosie looks like a great bet at great odds in the opener of the day and I think she can handle getting up in weight as she does get a little claim from Will Price. She raced at this track and trip in both of her past two starts where she has won both and each time she has managed to race near the lead and still find enough from up top to win. I think she makes it three in a row now.

THE DANGER - #1 - Gitalong
Gitalong is another who comes into this after having won his past two and can make it three in a row here with the right kind of run. He steps out for the Hawkes camp after clocking two tough on pace wins where he just keeps finding more to win in each. Can win again here.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Links
Links has looked quite a smart horse in his three career outings for Maher and Eustace and comes back to racing after a 24 week spell and with no public trials but a key claim from Gaudray who is also great on front running horses, small field, he should be competitive here.

BEST BET - #1 - Matron Bullwinkel (BEST BET)
Has to be Matron Bullwinkel in this race. She is just so much better than these with her best. The Maher and Eustace trained runner last stepped out on Cranbourne Cup Day where she got back off a solid speed and was never really a winning threat behind Foujita San but that was levels above this and I think that if history is anything to go by she is generally very strong off of a short break from racing.

THE DANGER - #2 - Kettle Hill
I feel like Kettle Hill probably promised to be a bit more than he has been since coming down under but he’s certainly not a bad horse and can win here. He last ran on Ballarat Cup Day when finishing just behind Independent Road who is a sharp horse himself. He now gets back onto better footing and can win again here. Well placed.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Starspangled Baby
Starspangled Baby I have been waiting to see in a race like this and he rates highly stepping out here for the Perdon stable after clocking a super fast runner up placing last time out. He last stepped out at Traralgon over the 1900m where he set fourth along the rail and powered home to place just behind Station One in a very strongly run race. Well placed here and I’d love to see him win this.

BEST BET - #1 - Glentaneous
I think that Glentaneous was just getting started when winning last time out at Sandown after controlling the race from out front and storming away to win so well. He should have a stack of improvement off that as Freedman runners often go and he will have no problem stepping out to this distance now. He also finds a race that is not out of reach at all.

THE DANGER - #5 - Fire Glo Too
Fire Glo Too is holding form very well and I don’t think he would have been placed here if he didn’t still have more to offer. He last ran just shy of a month ago over the 2400m at Caulfield where he came flying home from just off the pace but just couldn’t win there but went so close. He generally goes well at this course and the trip isn’t a query so should be strong.

VALUE BET - #6 - Zegalo (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Zegalo surely is over the odds here for the Cattell camp and has won at this track and trip and also comes into this off the back of a last start win so I think he has to be given a look here. He won the Country Classic two weeks back up in Sydney where he was very strong. He brings Sydney form now here and will handle the trip, has to rate as a key chance.
