Saturday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley Racecourse 28/01/23

Metro grade racing continues at Moonee Valley this Saturday with a strong nine race card for a total of $1.4 million prize with the feature race of the day being the Ma Services Grp Australia Stakes, a group two race over the 1200m for a share of $350,000 prize. The track is rated to be a soft 5 and I think that it should remain in this range with potential to be upgraded.

BEST BET - #3 - Bistro (BEST BET)
Bistro’s racing style is good for Moonee Valley, she has consistent speed. She defied the big drift a few weeks back when racing at Sandown when leading throughout and kicking hard to win easily. She was able to dictate there and will likely do the same here but will be tested late, I think she passes.

THE DANGER - #7 - Capital Theatre 
Capital Theatre doesn’t run a bad race at the moment. He thrives at this distance range, three weeks ago running over this distance at Sandown he placed just behind Bistro after chasing him all run. He was massive in defeat though and was finding the line well, he will be strong late and can flip the script this time.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Clarity 
Clarity comes back to the races after a 17 week spell and during that last prep won first up at this track in the mud over the 1200m but ran a great time for the conditions in an overall strong debut at the races. Moved on to bigger and better after that but didn’t do too much. I expect the stable work on her has been good and she can fire first up.

BEST BET - #2 - Mamaragan (NEXT BEST)
Mamaragan is a good horse who moved over to Nick Ryan which was all very strange. The horse is well tried and at his best he smashes this field. He has had three quite jump outs to ready himself for resumption at the races and I back the stable, they have been flying this month. Shinn is aboard which is a positive and I am happy to take the shot on him.

THE DANGER - #7 - Jean Valjean 
This is a tough race and so I am happy to take on Jean Valjean but she still has to be respected here. Clarken and O’Shea know what they are doing with her and have kept her on ice for this return since Boxing Day at Morphettville when looking pretty tired. The trial win last week was great and when the stable combines with Kah they seldom do badly.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Aminatu 
Often looking for horses who can sit near the rail and on the speed at The Valley over the shorter distances and that is exactly what Aminatu maps for. He gets in light, draws the rails and showed some promise two runs back over the 1400m when sitting close to the speed and fighting hard but just being outrun in the last 50m. If he improves into this a bit more I think he can win.

BEST BET - #3 - Ironclad (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Ironclad is racing for Clarken and O’Shea back home at The Valley after half year in Melbourne and then Perth where her best run was the second placing in the Northerly behind the new Aussie star Amelia’s Jewel. He does his best fresh and has had just the one trial at Strathalbyn to prepare him for this where he looked ready to go. 

THE DANGER - #5 - Jigsaw 
Alderson and Moor combine on Jigsaw for the third time this prep and this horse is absolutely flying at the moment, having won all three runs since resuming at the races and in style. She has been running great times and exhibiting a smart running style, overall speedster and doesn’t meet too tough a field here. 

VALUE BET - #7 - Calypso Reign
David Jolly is pretty good with the sprinters and Calypso Reign is one of his resuming from a successful Winter/Spring prep, not only going on to Stakes class but winning the Spring Stakes. He just moved along in his lone Strathylban trial but had plenty in hand and he flies fresh. I think that some others are looking ahead to bigger races where as he could have been prepared specifically for this.
