Saturday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley Racecourse 30/12/23

Vobis Gold Carat day has arrived to end a brilliant year of racing in Victoria and a great year overall off and I have run through the ten race card, including the $175k feature race of the day, the VOBIS Gold Carat, run over 1200m. I have picked out my best betting spots on the card so follow me below!

BEST BET - #1 - Dunkel (BEST BET)
I was starting to get worried after not being able to find a decent spot until this race because I think Dunkel is such a good horse for Patrick Payne and he has been set up for something like this. He comes out of a resuming run from a spell over the 1800m at Caulfield where he ran on well despite being first up and being completely against the run of the race. He now goes out in trip and ready to win.

THE DANGER - #5 - Independent Road 
Obvious threat in the Hayes Boys Independent Road who used to be a bit of a milk drinker but that certainly cannot be said anymore given the way he is going at the moment. He has had two runs back from a twenty week spell and both of them have been quite electric wins, the last being impressive win 1500m to 2000m and I think he just rates so well here. Go Close.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Monbaher
Monhaber is back and I think with a bit of intent for the Cumani camp after having not raced since mid year at Flemington where he clocked an outstanding win from just off the speed. He likely hasn’t been geared towards this race specifically but given the distance he’s stepping out at off the one jumpout there’s gotta be some level of intent here.

BEST BET - #4 - Space Tracker
Very good horse for Annabel Neasham in Space Tracker who I think his to be given another chance after bombing out when coming back from a break on Ballarat Cup Day. That was in the mud and he now gets back on top of the ground, goes out to the Mile and gets in light.

THE DANGER - #2 - Convener
Convener is coming back to the Mile but he’s such a good horse that I think he can’t be overlooked here. He last raced at Traralgon in the Cup over the 1900m where he stayed the trip behind Station One but wasn’t a winning threat. He draws a good barrier now, softer competition here and will be strong.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Typhoon Harmony (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
I think that Typhoon Harmony can be one of the better double figure odds bets of the day here for the Gelagotis camp combining with Jye McNiel. He got very tired two back when racing over this trip but they changed the tactics last time out, rode him a bit more conservatively and he relished it, powering home to place very well then. He looks ready to peak here and can win now.

BEST BET - #6 - Peace Treaty (NEXT BEST)
Pretty weak edition of this race but the short priced favourite for the Freedman’s in Peace Treaty looks the straight bat option. She needed her fresh run before last stepping out at Mornington where she did run a bit greenly but her class saw her home. She gets the gun run here and there’s really not too many good ones in this race.

THE DANGER - #10 - Setosa
Setosa seems to be a pretty progressive horse for Phillip Stokes having broke the maiden tag at her second career start two runs back at Ballarat when returning from a 20 week spell and then putting in another decent effort last time out when, despite not being in the race at all, he chased home strongly out wide in a bunched field. Hard fit now third up, plenty of upside still and Spain on all look like big ticks. 

VALUE BET - #3 - Torlaah
It would be quite a nice start to his career of Torlaah could come and win this at just his second career start but if there’s an edition of this race he can do that it’s probably this. He won very well on debut at Moe for the Oliver camp where he smashed the field there and now comes into this with plenty of upside and should be competitive here.
