Saturday Racing Tips - Morphettville Racecourse 06/05/23

Group one racing continues at Morphettville for Robert Sangster Stakes day and there’s nine competitive races with the Group one Furphy Robert Sangster Stakes being the highlight of the day, a 1200m sprint for a share of half a million dollars prize money. The card also features two group twos and two group threes. THe weather is fine, the track is rated a soft 5 and I think we are on for a great day of racing. Follow me below as I outline my best betting spots on the card.

BEST BET - #8 - King’s Crossing
Wouldn’t generally be looking towards these earlier races but I think that King’s Crossing looks like a very good bet here if the stable has intent as I think he could be going on to bigger races very soon. Although he needs to get higher up in the ratings if he does want to do so and I think this is the classic set up for that. He’s proven at this trip, will improve off his fresh run at Geelong and has plenty of upside, clear top pick in this field.

THE DANGER - #5 - Silent Surrente
Silent SUrrente looks very well placed for the Clarken/O’Shea camp after switching stables from the McEvoy stable. She most recently ran here two weeks back over the 1950m when sitting on a very hot speed but steadily fading late and just went down to place second. I think that 2000m is good third up and has been knocking on the door for a win. Gets a top chance here to do so.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Eaglelou (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
The query with Eaglelou is the trip but off the back of his runs thus far this campaign it does look like hes going to eat it up and has been so strong thus far. He came back to this track after a short month long let up a fortnight ago where he set well back in the field but just kept improving and then knuckled down hard at the end for a very strong win. That run style suggests longer will be better and I think that this isn’t a race out of reach for him.

BEST BET - #2 - Savatoxl (NEXT BEST)
Using my heart a bit with this one but I absolutely love the way Savatoxl has returned after switching camps to Will Savage a bit earlier this year. She resumed at the beginning of April off a long spell in a WFA race where she bounced amazingly, found the rail and still had a kick for them late. I think she wil continue to improve sharply off the back of that and loves this track with multiple wins here. Top chance.

THE DANGER - #3 - General Beau 
General Beau ran on this day last year in the Tobin Bronze and he has a couple Stakes wins under the belt, can add another one to it now. He comes into this only second up with plenty of room for improvement off the back of a pretty solid return two weeks ago when never a threat behind Kallos, but coming on very strongly late. He generally shows up second up and this race is well within reach.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Larimer Street 
Larimer street gets in very well at only 54kg this time in. He resumed in the same race as General Beau but had to be taken back from the widest gate and couldn’t really get going down the straight from way back there when they just eased him out of the race. He draws a much better gate now, has no weight on his back and should improve off the return regardless.

BEST BET - #4 - Zapateo (BEST BET)
Zapateo is an awesome runner for James Cummings who looks very well placed for Godolphin to make it three in a row after two strong Stakes wins in Sydney and we know how the Sydney form reads when going interstate. Her last run was four weeks ago in The Sapphire at Randwick where she honestly made it look like a barrier trial. With a bit of toe in the ground she will look even stronger and will take a beating here. Always happy to be in the corner of Cummings.

THE DANGER - #6 - Passive Aggressive
Passive Aggressive could have a bit on these if he’s at his best. He resumed off a long spell in the G2 Challenger stakes where he beat off Eduardo and Giga Kick in one of the best wins I have seen all season and then finding the Heavy grounded 1200m TJ smith too much for him down the track behind I Wish I Win. Hasn’t been seen at the races since and comes back to much softer company, would be foolish to count her out.

VALUE BET - #13 - Ruthless Dame
Ruthless Dame I am convinced is going very well for the Maher/Eustace camp who genuinely unbelievable in the Group 1 Surround Stakes before struggling in a very very fast run Coolmore Classic. I think that the stable has been working her towards this race and she won her only previous start at this distance. The recent Jumpout was sharp and I think I will have to have something on her.
