Saturday Racing Tips - Morphettville Racecourse 22/04/23

Morphettville Parks will play host to ten races on Saturday, ranging in distance from the 1,000-meter sprint to the a few staying races. The track conditions for the meeting are good 4, and a total prize purse of $721,000 is available across all races on the card. The feature race of the day, scheduled for 4:47 pm, is the group three R N Irwin Stakes, a weight-for-age race over 1,100 meters, offering a prize money of $127,250 for the horses participating. Kallos, a four-year-old gelding trained by James Cummings from Flemington, is currently the favorite to win, priced at $3.40. The last three races of the ten-race card will be run on the course proper, and the track is rated as soft (5), with the rail in the true position for the entire circuit. The weather is expected to remain fine throughout the day.

BEST BET - #3 - Klabel - (BEST BET)
Klabel is third up today and must be respected in this field after a total forgive run last time out. When she was first up she looked good sitting on the speed and boxing along before fading into sixth in stronger company than this and then went out over the 1050m here three weeks ago where he looked very good behind the speed before fading again but he had a very tough run there and I think we can just take it as the fitness benefit. Top chance.

THE DANGER - #4 - Sixfootone
Sixfootone looks very well placed to go over for John Macmillan after placing in all three runs this preparation and the latest was on Easter Monday in the Oakbank where he attempted to lead them and even after a tough run still had a strong kick late but just couldn’t get one over the smart Prance N Dance. I think with a more considered ride he will be even stronger late.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Toast the Deel (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
The O’Shea trained Toast the Deel has found winning form and can pick up another win here after taking a short break from the races she resumed at this track when a close second before racing at Gawler as a very short favourite at the beginning of the month and just holding on to break the maiden tag there. I think they will need to help her conserve her energy for later in the run to be a threat in this field but if they can do that she will be very dangerous.

BEST BET - #6 - My Khalifa (BEST BET)
We backed My Khalifa two weeks back at Oakbank where he really did look the winner for a long way, trying hard all run in an honest effort but he couldn’t quite catch the fitter Rolls when beaten under a length. Her win before that was very good and she will still be fit off the back of the last run. Top Chance.

THE DANGER - #7 - Saskatoon
Saskatoon looks like the Jolly stable has been preparing him for this race. He was very consistent before the Summer before taking a break and resuming at Oakbank over this distance where he did a lot of good work from the wide gate but the fitness told late when he just faded. He loves this track, has more upside than most and the stable are very good down here in SA.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Morvada
Moravada maps to lead these and has a very good record at this track and trip. He comes from the same race that Saskatoon was in at Oakbank where he sat on a hot speed and also just faded late. He will be fitter now, loves running here and maps to find the front easily. Big chance at the odds.

In The Boat looks very well placed for Lindsey Smith. He ran in The Discovery at Geelong on Good Saturday where he was near the lead throughout and gave a big kick but found one better in one of my favourite horses, Curran, who has lengths on these. He maps to lead or be near the lead and is incredibly dynamic in running, will be a threat throughout.

THE DANGER - #1 - Kallos
Kallos is an honest horse for James Cummings who comes into this third up and primed to win. Has won third up before and has picked up a win already this prep second up at Flemington late last month when fending off some stronger horses than these. 

VALUE BET - #10 - Another Award
Another Award can hit back hard here after just going down in the Manihi Classic a couple weeks back at this track. THe run before then was in the Matrice on Cup Day where she won from the back, changing gears very well late to score impressively. She will be as fit as she gets now and finds another winnable race.
