Saturday Racing Tips - Mornington Racecourse 30/09/23

Racing returns to Mornington for Ansett Classic day and we have nine races on the program down south for what looks to be a very exciting day of racing in South Australia. The day is featured by the R.M. Ansett Classic in race 7, it is a listed 2400m staying race that I will run through below. Follow me as I run through the card!

BEST BET - #3 - Pride Of Sullivan (BEST BET)
I think it’s going to take a good thing going to beat the odds on favourite Pride Of Sullivan in this field. He comes into this three weeks after contesting the Atlantic Jewel where he found the front and did well for the majority of the race to lead them out and whilst she did give a solid kick she just didn’t have what it took in the last 200m. She should be strong here now back to 1000m and with her toe above the ground.

THE DANGER - #7 - Undisputed
Undisputed has lived up the name thus far, winning her career debut at Moe where she looked to not have anything in the tank in the last 50-100m but she was able to just flop through the line for a maiden win there. She didn’t beach much there but will have plenty of upside to come and she rates well here.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Zousuko
Zousuko can win this for the Mcardle stable. She has been racing over distances a bit further than this in her last few runs back; she really hasn’t been finding the line the way the stable clearly has expected her to. She now comes back in trip and is hard fit, with something to chase in front of her she should be very effective here.

BEST BET - #4 - Fiasco Tess (NEXT BEST)
Fiasco Tess is going to give herself every chance from the low draw. The Brideoake / Jennkins trained horse comes off the back of a run at Sandown where she was on the speed and looked to start a big run on the turn but just didn’t have the petrol to finish it off and faded into fifth. Gets Costin on who loves a free running horse, all looks positive.

THE DANGER - #5 - Mere Fancy
Mere Fancy goes out to the 1500m here for the Mcardle stable and is proven second up. She resumed over the 1300m at Sandown a fortnight ago where she got way out of her ground and raced a bit greenly, not coming on when looking like she had the chance to. She is locally trained, will be fitter second up and a lot sharper now.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Starspangled Baby
If you have been following me for some time you know I am a fan of Starspangled Baby for the Perdon stable and he looks to be approaching peak fitness now third up. He has a very good third up record with two wins and a placing in four runs and now comes into this off the back of a luckless run at Sandown over the mile where he looked to start getting going on the turn but was held up at a key stage. He rates well here third up now and meets a beatable field.

BEST BET - #1 - Regal Power 
Regal Power looks like the leading contender in what looks like overall a pretty poor edition of this race. He stepped out behind Uncle Bryn last Saturday in the Naturalism where he didn’t do an awful lot but at least proved he is up to the task at this distance. There looks to be a fair bit of pace on here as well which will only aid his cause and he has the class over this field.

THE DANGER - #4 - Born A King
I can’t be laying money on Born A King due to this being too much of a query distance at his price of odds on favouritism right now but he does seem to be racing like this will be ideal for him. He ran fifth to Young Werther a few weeks back at the Valley where he overcame the track bias to motor home well there from the rear of the field. He’s got the fitness, just a question of if this is the right trip for him.

VALUE BET - #7 - Dick Whittington (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Dick Whittigton is a high class animal for Phillip Stokes and whilst I am always wary of Synthetic form and how it will translate off the synthetic I think that winning form is winning form and this horse just continues to blast fields at Pakenham with three wins in his last four runs now. His last came over the 2200m a few weeks back where he coasted along the speed before clicking up in the last 300m to clock some great late splits, for the distance range, and safely belt them to the line. This race is a bit of a nothing race and I can definitely see the stable taking advantage of that.

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse. As a result, horses drawn on the inside have a better chance of performing well compared to those drawn towards the outside.
