Saturday Racing Tips - Morphetville Racecourse 27/04/24

Racing comes back to Morphetville this Saturday for the Robert Sangster and we have nine races on the card. with two Group 1 races on the card, with the Sportsbet Robert Sangster Stakes being the feature of the day. I have thoroughly run through the card and picked out my best betting spots and outlined them below so follow me for a very exciting day of racing at Morphetville!

BEST BET - #1 - Growing Empire (NEXT BEST)
Pretty keen on Growing Empire here for Ciaron Maher. He’s a few weeks between runs since stepping out in the Pearl at The Valley where he led throughout and was strong to the line in winning very well. His racing debut in Sydney was great and he still has upside here, go very well at the price.

THE DANGER - #7 - Karavas
Karavas is the danger here for the Jolly camp. She resumed three weeks back in the Dequetteville where she was odd a hot speed and winded up on the outside to let down very well and only fall behind one other in Lincolnshire. She now goes out to the 1200m with that run done and will be strong here.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Pure Aqua
Another rep from the Jolly camp that should be strong here is Pure Aqua who comes out of the Without Fear a fortnight back where she got a beauty of a run before finding a gap in the straight and beating them with plenty in hand. I think the 1200m is good for her and she will be strong against these.

BEST BET - #2 - Wings Of Song 
Wings Of Song is proving to be quite the horse for Patrick Payne and comes here chasing his eighth win at thirteenth start. He made his track debut here when six weeks between runs a fortnight ago over the 1800m when hooking out widest on the turn and letting down powerfully to come clear of them in the final 125m. That was his sixth win in a row and I think he can make it seven here despite this being his hardest test to date.

THE DANGER - #1 - Pulchritudinous
Pulchritudinous is a former NZ runner that has been brought over by Waterhouse / Bott and is making her Australian debut here. She last raced in the NZ Oaks when asked for the effort in the straight and she ran away with it, winning very well. Her Randwick trial was good enough to see her competitive here.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Queen Of Dragons (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Queen Of Dragons brings great form to this race after running fourth in the Vinery Stud at Rosehill last time out where she was near the speed and tried hard from there but just couldn’t go on with the best late. Orchestral was the winner there and she would be well under evens here. She gets the map, Lane aboard and will be strong late.

BEST BET - #12 - Estriella (BEST BET)
Looks to be a great edition of the Robert Sangster this year but I think it’s hard to get away from the favourite here in Estriella who has put together a few brilliant wins down the Flemington straight and looks to be up to greater competition than this. She comfortably held I Am Me in a jumpout last week and looked the better of the two then and with a win here she is going to shorten in the market for The Everest.

THE DANGER - #2 - I Am Me 
I Am Me jumped out alongside Estriella last week at Cranbourne and while Estriella looked the better of the two she’s still an outstanding horse for Ciaron Maher and gets the booking of Blake Shinn which will only aid her cause. She comes here chasing her tenth win in twenty career starts and off the back of a very solid placing behind Imperatriz which is A1 form. Go well. 

VALUE BET - #5 - Roots
If you have been following me for awhile you would know how much of a fan I am of Roots for Chris Waller and she looks to have the right kind of set up to be competitive here at a price. She resumed a month ago at Rosehill in the Star Kingdom at Rosehill where she was against the track pattern but still came home well behind Bandi’s Boy. This race looks suited to her tempo wise and she will be flying home late.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Morphetville at Morphetville.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
