Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 10/06/23

Racing returns to Randwick off a two week break and it’s Bob Charley AO stakes day. We have ten competitive races on the card with a handful of high Benchmark grade sprints and a few mid distance races. The card is highlighted by the G3 Bob Charlie AO Stakes which is a 1100m WFA sprint contested for a share of $160,000 prize money. The track is rated a soft 5, the rail is out +3m for the entire circuit and we should be on for a great day of racing at Randwick.

BEST BET - #3 - Ozzmosis (BEST BET) 
Ozzmosis is a clear cut top pick to kick off the card. Bjorn Baker sent him off to Gosford for his debut under J Mac two weeks ago and he barely had to extend himself at all their, sitting behind the leader and just cruising along before shifting out and putting them away easily in good time. Now, with a bit more competition we should get to see what he is all about.

THE DANGER - #7 - Royal Tribute
The Gai / Bott stable have to be respected with any juveniles that they put forward at the moment as they are absolutely flying and Royal Tribute is a Son of Snitzel that debuts here and is very well bred. He’s had two trials to ready him for start one with some subsequent winners having emerged from each of those trials already and he had absolutely trucked along to win both trials which should have him run positively here first up.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Fleetwood
Giving some respect to the lightly raced Cummings juvenile in Fleetwood who jumps up to Saturday grade off the back of a debut win at Warwick Farm just shy of a month ago where Nash got him into a great spot, sitting behind the speed before coming off heels on the turn and powering home to get the upper hand inside the 200m there. He should only improve off the back of that.

BEST BET - #1 - Kibou (NEXT BEST)
Kibou looks like a very good thing for the Waterhouse / Bott stable who is resuming off a long spell due to some injuries and had been working along to group racing, having won three out of four of his last starts with the last being the G3 Up and Coming Stakes. He looks to have fully shrugged off his injuries in two lead up trials, both of them last month at the Hawkesbury and looks set to go now. He will be hard to beat.

THE DANGER - #2 - Iowna Merc 
Iowna Merc looks to have returned in very good order for Bjorn Baker, having resumed off of a 22 week spell three weeks ago at Randwick where he trailed behind the speed and bounded off the fence inside the last 200m and powered away for a great win. He should have plenty of upside off the back of that first up run and I am keen to see how he goes here.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Plundering 
Plundering has done very little wrong in three runs this prep for Annabel Neasham, placing close runner up in two runs and scoring two back at Kensington where he sat on the speed two wide and came around them to draw clear smartly inside the last 150m. He ran again last time out here and looked the winner a long way but just couldn’t finish it off when grabbed by Yoshino on the line. I think if they ride him with a bit of a sit again he will be very hard to beat late.

BEST BET - #5 - Conscript 
Conscript looks like it’s going to take a good thing going around to beat him, coming into this rating atop the whole field and still being very well weighted at just 56kg. The Ryan and Alexiou stable are flying right now and Conscript is no exception. He’s had two runs back off a 23 week spell and first up he flew at Rosehill in the wet over the 1200m to just miss to Astero in a brave run and then came to this track a couple weeks ago and powered over them to salute dominantly over the 1100m, clocking great splits in the process. I think he will improve even further third up here and should go close.

THE DANGER - #12 - Spacewalk
Spacewalk should be strong here for James Cummings under Overmeire’s steering now. I think he will relish getting out to 1100m and it looks like there should be a genuine tempo on which will only aid his cause. He resumed two back in the Gold Coast Guineas behind Yellow Brick where he was far from disgraced, running on hard from the back of the field before making even bigger improvements in the Darby McCarthy where he powered home from the back to narrowly go down second to Golden Boom. He will be hard fit now and should take beating against these. 

VALUE BET - #2 - Zethus (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Zethus has been very good in two runs back from a spell and I think he has been working along towards this race. His last run came three weeks ago in the Chief De Beers at Doomben where he came from last to weave a path through the field smartly and finish just behind the flying and super progressive Mishani Sniper. He gets the draw and jockey to have him settle a lot closer now, in which case he will be very strong late.
