Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 14/10/23

Bang! The Tab Everest is upon us and I am very excited for what is going to be the biggest day of the season with a $31.6 million card among us and in addition to the feature race of the day, the Tab Everest, a 1200m WFA sprint for a share of $20 million there are a bunch of other listed races on the day such as the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes, The Kosciuszko and the Sydney Stakes. I have outlined tips for the three biggest races of the card so follow me below!

#13 - Bella Nipotina - $4.50
#2 - Vilana - $5.50
#14 - Zapateo (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $11.00
#11 - Airman - $7.50

BEST BET - #13 - Bella Nipotina
Bella Nipotina looks primed for this race off the back of two runs this time in to ready her for this. She ran first up getting very close to Private Eye before running behind the smart Think About It and she has an absolutely belter third up record and I think that she is over her odds and is the likely winner here. Very keen.

THE DANGER - #2 - Vilana 
Vilana looks like he has been revved up for this assignment and will be prominent for the Godolphin stable. He hasn’t raced since the Stradbroke where he really didn’t do much behind Think About It. I wouldn’t be too concerned about the first up condition as he does his best work with fresh legs and the trial the other week looked very sharp.

VALUE BET  - #14 - Zapateo (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Another Godolphin rep here and with the booking of Zac Purton it is hard to ignore Zapateo. We all know what Purton was able to do around this time last year when coming over from HK. Zapateo has had two runs this time in and wasn’t able to do his best work in the Premier Stakes but did run very well in the Sheraco first up. However, the most important thing for me is his third up record consists of three wins and a runner up in four runs.

BEST BET - #3 - Think About It (NEXT BEST)
Wow I was pretty hung up on this race for some time but after really going into the last four runs that each of I Wish I win and Think About It have had over this trip I just can’t get away from I Think About It who is looking to make it nine in a row. He’s had just the one run this time in, a win in the Premiere where he had to do heaps of work and was there to be challenged but Clipperton suggested post race that he had plenty. He’ll improve off the back of that and will be tough to beat here.

THE DANGER - #1 - I Wish I Win
I Wish I Win has had just the one run since returning from a 22 week spell where she let them get a way in front in the Memsie and then got going hard late to catch a placing and put on a display in those last 200m. The fitness was the only difference between him and the winners there. He will have plenty of improvement to come and whilst he doesn’t draw a great gate, his run style is well suited to sitting back and powering over the top of them in the straight. Will make this a race.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Private Eye
Private Eye has been having a great prep this far and seems like he isn’t slowing down. The way he won first up was incredibly impressive when racing tough out wide and still finding enough to win there. He has had a very sharp trial since where he was ridden with intent in the company of some smart horses and as soon as he was asked for the effort there he powered away. He nearly took this race out last year and I don’t think that it’s out of reach at all this year.

BEST BET - #2 - Mr Brightside (BEST BET)
We covered the prospects of Mr Brightside in our news article earlier this week and I really do think that he is going to cement himself here as the best horse in the country over this distance. He’s won all three of his runs this time in with the latest being even more impressive than I expected in the Makybe Diva where he had only run prior with tempo on but made a mess of them even with no tempo this time. I just don’t see how he gets beaten and at this track he has only gone well.

THE DANGER - #14 - Fangirl 
If you were following me last year you would know how high I was on this mare and she really is all class. She hasn’t raced since about a month ago in the 7 Stakes where she was never a winning threat after getting far too deep in the field but came on so strongly behind Think It Over. She will likely be doing similar things here but will be much more revved up for this.

VALUE BET - #3 - Zaaki
Zaaki used to be my favourite horse in the country and will always have a special place in my heart. He’s had two runs back from a spell this time in and has just missed in both but has shown he is still class. His last run came in the 7 stakes where he took over at the 220m after having a slow start (it was a slowly run race) and looked the winner in a bold effort but just couldn’t get past Think It Over. He looks well placed here with Think It Over not in this race.
